Dolphins | Routine checkup for Culpepper turned into surgery
Sun, 3 Dec 2006 08:36:21 -0800
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Miami Dolphins QB Daunte Culpepper (knee) went for a routine checkup earlier this week and it turned into arthroscopic surgery to remove scar tissue. The team is being conservative with Culpepper and are keeping him on the active roster as a long-shot insurance policy.

Whoever conducts the physicals for the Dolphins needs to SERIOUSLY be fired, tarred, and feathered. We fail Brees, and he's thrown for over 3,000 yards already, with an overachieving, but still good team. We pass Culpepper, and he's been out the bulk of the year and still recovering and having surgery over a year after the injury. Nice judgment by that fool.

It does look bad. These "experts" get paid good money to give poor advice by the sound of it.

I have to agree with you. I don't understand how they get paid this much to make these decisions and yet if they fail they still keep their jobs.

You guys make no sense...this was "factual knowledge" when they traded for DC that he "likely" would need up to 18 months to fully heal...

Thus, the purpose behind "trading" a draft pick for Joey Harrington...

I dont understand why people are surprised when what was "factual knowledge" when they traded for him that was "likely" to happen...ACTUALLY HAPPENED!!!???

The reasoning behind trading for DC instead of Brees was the "bigger" upside in Culpepper and the injury on Brees "throwing arm" compared to what Brees wanted financially.

The plan is going according to plan! The trade was "NOT" contingent on DC being able to play in 2006??? It was contingent in "when" he heals...HE'LL HAVE A BIGGER UPSIDE THAN DREW "CORNY", "SCAR FACE", and "WEAK ARM" BREES

  Hello, McFly? ARe you there?

Okay, then why, if we knew it could take up to 18 months, did we annoint him starting QB, if it was "factual knowledge" it would be a year and a half before he was healthy? What exactly is Culpepper's upside? And how is it bigger than Brees? Brees has been playing solidly for the last number of years and is continuing to play well, Daunte did not play good this year, or last year before the injury. What's the "upside" if he never gets back to 100% and Brees is manning a perinial Playoff team? I just don't see how someone trained to make a decision on someone's help could make such a poor decision.

And those attacks on Brees are pretty low-class. The guy seems like a class act. And I'm sure "Weak Arm" is laughing when he throws for over 300 yards a game. And I'm sure he's content with the fact that the person we chose over him is having more surgery while he's in a Playoff, and MVP race. Wow, I just defended someone that went to Purdue. Everyone else here in Bloomington would agree with you, just because he wore that dredded Gold and Black.

Perhaps, but judging by the way Brees is playing this season your apparent distaste with him is utter nonsense.

I'm wondering the same thing. Especially because Dante said for months how great he felt and the knee was perfect and all that bull**** on his interviews. Now he admits he was in pain and didnt regain his explosiveness. Personally it really pisses me off that he lied to us and played when he wasn't 100%. Sucks to have someone of that character when you look over at Carson Palmer and the way he handled his knee injury. If he does come back, I hope the team doesn't have confidence/trust issues with him.

All in all, I don't blame Saban for the decision to take Dante, but if Dante does't improve soon its time to get him out of here and look at drafting a young gun to bring up under Harrington next year. Otherwise we are just treading water until Zack and Jason's batteries completely run out.

Daunte did not lie, He just felt he was ready to go.

I think all you are dealing with is a guy that is tired of the "low-class" remarks as it pertains to Culpepper. Culpepper's upside was his previous years' durability (due to being built like a truck), the experience, and his arm strength. None of this is a revelation.

What seems to be a revelation to some people is that this team is not a playoff team. If a fan had his eyes open he knew prior to this season that the prognisticaters had it all wrong. This would not have been a playoff team with Peyton Manning at QB. We have no running game on offense. We have no secondary on defense. We might as well say that we have no kicker. The thing that has saved this team routinely is coaching adjustments made to defense the attack the opposition has chosen.

As for the Brees-Culpepper mess. Brees has alot of help with his statistics. He has a couple of rookie receivers playing out of their minds. He has a proven running back. He has the most exciting player in the league. Contrary to the Dave Wannestedt Dolphins the Saints (in those years) spent money on offense. They didn't spend money on defense.

So figure out the difference on your own. The Saints can score. The Saints cannot stop bleeding points on defense. We can stop the opposition but we cannot score. Stop pushing the panic button every time our lack of balance bites us in the butt. It was building for six years. Give it more than two to be resolved. God might not have helped us at QB...

I'm prophetic......

I understand it with Culpepper, he felt he was ready to go. The Man's a competitor, and he was eager to prove himself. He didn't perform up to the (insanely high) expectations for his team. I was merely thinking out loud that if seemingly everyone knew this was an 18-month recuperation, why was he playing less than a year later? It just doesn't seem like the best move for him in regards to his health, or the team. I don't doubt Daunte's ability, he has been a good QB in the past. What I do question, is whether he can ever return to that form, and how he was able to pass a physical and Brees wasn't. Also, part of the reason the Rookie WRs in NO are playing well is because of Brees. Do you think if they had Aaron Brooks back there they'd be looking like Pro Bowlers? I doubt that. Brees is a very good Quarterback. The only reason he was let go in San Diego is because they knew what they had in Philip Rivers.

I'd love to see a three-way QB battle next season with Joey, Daunte, and Cleo. Give them all chance to play with the first stringers. And may the best man win.
