Not too bad for a team that is rebuilding. With all the negative talk after Sunday's loss to AZ I thought it would due us Dolfans some good to view some of the positives that are coming from this long, complete overhaul. On another side note, Channing Crowder is tied for #6 in the league for tackles with 18 in two games, and Kendall Langford is tied for #8 in the league for sacks with 5 in two games

Just thought I'd throw this out there for everyone..Go Phins!!

He has 2 sacks, not 5.

why run on a team when you can throw all over them. Would you rather take it nice and easy and run for 4-5 yards a play, or just throw for an 80 yd. td on first down?

True...our secondary is horrible right now, but I just think our Run Defense deserves a little credit

I know you are trying to be positive, but when u get almost 400 yards thrown on u in the air, your run defense tends to put up better stats.

Our Run D isn't that good because I saw Thomas Jones gash this team in week 1, and James and Hightower were killing us this week 2. Maybe the yardage wasn't so bad, but like I said, the yardage came in the air. Late in the game when we had Arizona backed up on a third down, maybe allowing us to see Henne play some more, we couldn't stop them on the run and they ran out the clock.

I like this team, but this past week they were outmanned, outcoached, outeverything and I was very disappointed.

Exactly. It's just the opposite of last year. Last year, according to stats, we were pretty good against the pass. Obviously that was because everybody ran 200 yds on us. now all of a sudden we're bad against the pass? No, we were bad against it last year too, just like we're bad against the run this year.

It's just a matter of teams finding your greatest weakness and exploiting it. If passing can put up 31 points, why run?

This goes to show that it will take time to rebuild it. This is where Parcells and Ireland put their focus into in the offseason; LB/DL. It's already paying dividends. Next off season I guarantee we address Secondary and WR.

Expecting a good season was the truly the wishful thinking of delusional fans (me included), but realistically, we're seeing the progress (at least I am), and it'll take time to fix the gaping holes of talent on this team.

While there is truth in your statement, the run defense is shutting down opposing rushing attacks forcing them to throw. That is a good thing. You can fix blown assignments and poor secondary play. You cannot fix a massively over matched defensive front seven that is giving up 153 yards per game. We can get better this year, but there was no chance last year. I prefer our current defense.

Also, it is important to note that the front office fixed the biggest problem with last years team. You cannot fix everything with one draft. I have confidence that our secondary will be improved during next offseason.

The #12 ranking is not a true ranking of our defense in the sense of how good a defense actually is.

The only reason why we are ranked 12 in run defense is because we are ranked 30 in pass defense. We arent ranked that high because we are a good run stopping team, we are ranked that high because teams throw on us rather than run on us. Its the same thing as last year, our run d was 31, and our pass d was 4th. Do you think we actually had a top 5 passing defense last year? Heck no we didnt.

I feel the same way I see the strong change in this team. Build the lines first. This year it is all about the lines. Both offense and defense lines need to be strong first then build around them and look we even have the QB of the future... FINALLY a QB... Secondary, WR's, Dont worry they are comming. One thing at a time....

"why run on a team when you can throw all over them. Would you rather take it nice and easy and run for 4-5 yards a play, or just throw for an 80 yd. td on first down?"
-- Clearly you're going to do what works. However, statistically, it is more important to stop the run than stop the pass.

For example, compare our defense last year to the Minnesota vikings. Last year, Minnesota had a great run defense, and a terrible pass defense. Result: Top 10 defense.

Miami - terrible run defense, pass defense ranked high(why pass when you can run?). Result: Bottom 10 defense.

Guys, I will admit that my instinct is to point out how terrible our pass defense has been, and cite that as the reason our run defense's numbers are good. However, make note of the YPC...Considering that it is preemptively established that teams will be able to pass, it SHOULD follow that they would be able to trounce us in the run game as well. It IS cause for optimism guys, and we need just about anything to have some right now.

That being said, it goes back to coaching...if you have been able to contain the run well, MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO THE COVERAGE SCHEMES FOR CHRISSAKE!

IMO, what the run defense tells me is that we're not getting pushed around, man for man. Our guys are holding their own in the individual battles, but as a UNIT, they are not being put in position to succeed. Our secondary was set up for failure on Sunday. They were simply not good enough to succeed in that game plan. We can win games with what we have, just look at the Titans...No WRs, QB is irrelevant, and you can't name half the guys on their defense....why are they 2-0 and us 0-2?

COACHING!

very good point...I know that our pass defense is horrible, but I mean come on, give Roth, Langford, and the DL some credit! They were putting all kinds of pressure on Favre and Warner...so at least we are making some progress...maybe very slowly, but its a start
