I had become concerned regarding the lack of scoring in the third quarter by the Fins. So thanks to this site and good ole CNNSI I was able to download the box scores from the last 4 years.

I am wondering how much emphasis should be placed on half time adjustments as a measure of coaching ability.

Fins 1st 2nd 3rd 4th OT Final
2003 4.3 7.8 2.8 4.5 0.2 19.4
2002 7.1 6.9 4.3 5.3 0.0 23.6
2001 4.1 6.7 1.8 8.1 0.0 20.7
2000 4.2 6.8 5.6 3.6 0.0 20.2

Opnts 1st 2nd 3rd 4th OT Final
2003 3.1 5.4 3.0 4.5 0.4 16.3
2002 2.2 6.1 4.1 6.2 0.2 18.8
2001 3.9 6.1 5.3 3.7 0.0 18.9
2000 3.1 3.6 0.6 6.7 0.2 14.1

With the exception of the 14 points at Dallas on Turkey Day our 3rd quarter average would have again been 1.8.

Is it our opponents who are adjusting better to us or are we not capitalizing on what opposing defenses are giving us heading into the second half?...

These are all Dave W numbers. I would be curious if there was any significant difference comparing Dave to JJ to Shula.but I am not having as much luck getting box scores prior to 1999. I am sure they are out there somewhere on the web. Dolphins Media guide only has them for the previous year. ( At least my 1995 copy did )

I think we need to boost that average to scoring 28 points a game to be serious playoff contenders...

Did I mention I hate the dead football period in Feb...makes me do crazy things like analyse boxscores

:goof:
