Dolphins should beat the Panthers

I like the optimism...But I don't see it happening...We did not stop the run when we needed to last week on crucial 3rd down plays...And Stephen Davis returned to form last week against the Pats. I'm not saying we can't win...But I'm not seeing how we "Should Win".

Good Article. If anything it is a confidence booster. I needed to read something like that.

I concur.

I hope it is right. These early season games are so hard to figure in general. The teams are so relatively equal that they lookbad one week and great the next. It would be great to be 2-0 going into week 3.

You mean 2-1 going into the bye.

I don't know what the guy was thinking, we are definetely the underdog. I anticipate another game similiar to the Jets game, hard fought, low scoring. Lets hope we squeeze one out, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Penalties are our biggest enemy. We had 2 last week on the first drive and 1 of them took back a huge turnover on the opponents side of the field. I think if we stop making stupid penalties, we have a fighting chance.

I liked the Randy is good for a trip to the endzone atleast once a game... Maybe once a game this year.. Do they let anyone but homers and people that don't know as much about football as they think write these articles? I guess it is a pro Miami site.

I don't really agree with the assessment that we should win. I think we might win, and if Vegas has us at 3.5 underdogs, then Vegas thinks we MIGHT win too.

The Dolphins corners gave too much cushion to the Jets' receivers. We know that. But now they got scolded and if they play closer then guess what Delhomme's got the arm and Steve Smith's got the jets to beat us DEEEEEP down the field.

I don't look for Stephen Davis to do damage against us, but Deshaun Foster might. They'll use him to outrun our defenders to the edges of the field where we've shown vulnerability.

Otherwise the Panthers will do much the same as the Jets did, try and sit back and let savvy guys like Steve Smith and Ricky Proehl find the holes between the zones.

Key will be putting true pressure on Delhomme and confusing him with zone blitzes and coverages.

On offense it all starts with the run. If we run the ball well, we stay on the field long enough to let the deep passes start working for us. If we don't run the ball well, we're just taking pot shots down the field to receivers who probably aren't open enough to catch it.

Also, bench David Boston. Make him the 5th WR for now. I want to see Wes Welker as our true 3rd WR, and Bryan Gilmore the guy right behind him to come in and streak the field on post routes down the middle.

What kind of half-hearted prediction is that? "The Dolphins should beat the Panthers." That guy should grow some balls and predict a win. I can't stand wishy-washy fans, even from other teams.

Living in Colorado I never get to see Carolina on tv unless I am a sportsbar...I have never been impressed with "Del Hommie" at QB, but they have a good back in Davis....and their defense has always been their strong point. I think we need to get some points on the board early and try to wear them down. Last week our offense moved the ball right down the field in the 1st quarter but Mare's shank and our missed TD opportunity put us in a bind the whole day. I think the key is a our running game....we need Ronnie to step up and have a big game so Gus is not forced to throw it all day.

If we stop the run we win. Plain and simple.

Actually, no, but its half the battle.

I think it comes down to our O-Line (which will be the case most of the time all season) more than our D. As we saw last week, and many, many times in the past years we have a bend-dont-break D-Fence right up till crunch time.

Hear me out.

Now, I dont mean that when crunch time comes we have a bad D, but I think they have been known to weaken (often from sheer exhaustion) during the end of a game (and season) since our OLine doesnt help us manage the clock and keep the ball a majority of the time. It not exclusively the Oline fault but its a key contributor.

Again, I love where this team is going. You all probably know that from my past posts on this site.

But we must put points on the board with our O. We must control the clock and assist our D to stay fresh. It may be a stretch but I compare it to the Balt. Ravens approach during their SB run with the O they had and the QB they had. It wasnt stellar but they had a good O-Line, turns out they had a QB that minimized mistakes and didnt force throws, and they could run the ball and pass it enough in PA to ease the D. They did this with their Oline controlling things. Then when the D had to step up and dominate and put a key stop together they were fresh to do it.

Now, are we equal to Balt Raven's and ready and able to do the same thing? Probably not. But we do have an outstanding D, a D that could dominate, but it seems they seemingly bend just a little more at the end of a game. Maybe thats normal, and it could it be a coincidence, maybe, but I tend to see our D being the face of our team, and the fact is like last week vs. the Jets it did give up the key drive and score when we could have used a stop most...because we just scored and had mo on our side.

So, I think, it comes down to the Oline doing its job in both the running game and pass protection. When that day comes, we will all see the best potential of our QB, RB, etc and fairly be able to judge talent and skill. Then our D can shine and hold up its end of the equation.
