Dolphins should find their QB under Parcells

Yeah it was a good read. Thanks. I believe he's right. I would expect Parcells to do just that - find us a franchise QB.
My main concern with drafting Ryan 1st overall is this -
Is he that "franchise QB" ?
Or is it just a case of Ryan just happens to be the best QB in the draft this year? Just because he's the best the draft class has to offer this year doesn't necessarily equate to "franchise QB" status.
Myself, I have to admit I'm not qualified to make that determination. I suspect that there are very few not working within the NFL who really are qualified to do that.
Parcells said it best, however, when he stated that if you make a mistake with that 1st overall pick, you set the franchise back several years.

We can only hope. The past three regimes were not around long enough to provide any stability at the position although Wannstedt did try. He was the only one to start consecutive seasons with the same QB.

I have been hoping for a good solid QB since Marinoe retired. We have still yet to find one.

good read. I don't know if I want Ryan compared to Bledsoe but at least Bledsoe was a solid starting QB. I am just not a fan of QBs with no feet (pocket statue)

Nice post. I agree. :)

Although I probably feel stronger about Ryan than alot of the folks here.

I think another valid point, and IMO it's crucial; no matter who it is we have to have a dominant O-line for the guy to even have a chance to succeed. As long as our O-line is mediocre and inconsistent we're going to have the same results as in the past. I don't necessarily mean another 1-15 season. I mean an offense that sputters and stalls and has trouble getting into the end zone.
We can have all kinds of talent at the skills positions but once we are in the red zone and the opponent's defense starts sending blitzes we've got to be able to block.

Dont all coaches try to find a franchise QB? That article is kinda lame. Finding a franchise QB is a crap shoot. The key is having a coaching staff around more than 1-2 years and develop a QB.

Until reading this article I was fairly sure that we would not pick Matt Ryan because he does not appear to be a sure thing as a franchise back and because "I" feel that picking a rookie QB this year would be a mistake with all the issues the Dolphins will have their first year under this new staff. The only way I would pick a QB this year was if he was a sure thing franchise back. But now this article has me wondering. Parcells has a lot of confidence too much in my opinion at times. I think that Matt Ryan has all the tools to be a great QB but is very streaky which is in my opinion a hard thing to coach a QB not to so. He reminds me of Rex Grossman and even though the Bears have played well with him at QB I still would not want him as my QB. So there you have it if the QB is that important to Parcells right away then maybe Matt Ryann is the pick. I know the Beck people are going to hate hearing that butt Parcells does have his game plan and you can bet he is sticking to it.

So now the big question remains. Who will that QB be???....

The article mentioned Beck / Ryan / and the possibility of a one year stop gap veteran. I think most everyone here knows how I feel about it, and who I want leading us into the future. We need to draft accordingly, and make Matt Ryan the new franchise QB of the Miami Dolphins....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

Mort said last night that Beck has thrown about 3500 passes so far this off season getting ready for the season, you can bet that Lee is working with him.

I really think Beck will be fine and we will draft a QB in round 3 or 4 unless someone slips to our 2nd, 2nd round pick.

I don't know if I want Ryan compared to Bledsoe

Just an FYI, my point here:

Others believe Matt Ryan will have the same effect on the franchise as Bledsoe had on the Patriots.

...was not that Ryan is a Bledsoe-level talent. Rather, it was to illustrate that BP has gone a variety of different directions in finding THE guy as his QB. Simms was in place when Parcells took over the Giants. He drafted his guy in New England. He brought in his guy with the Jets (even though Vinny's Achilles didn't cooperate). And he developed a diamond in the rough with Romo.

It'll be interesting to see which direction he goes with the Phins but he will find a QB. As was mentioned, every franchise wants to find the guy but Parcells does it.

Frankly, I still believe Beck will be the guy (http://www.realfootball365.com/nfl/articles/21035.html), at least in part due to Lee's direction (http://www.realfootball365.com/nfl/articles/21334.html). Of course, it's mostly (reasonably informed) speculation but I stand by my analysis that Beck will be the starter in the opener this year and for several years to come.

* Of course, it won't hurt that the O-line is likely to be far sturdier this year than last...

The fact of the matter is that Parcel's track record with QBs has been all over the place. In NYG he inherited Phil Simms and ran with him. In NE he used a high 1st rounder of Bledsoe. In NYJ he tried a reclamation project with Testeverde and then decided to use a 1st round pick on Pennington. Then in Dallas he started with older vets and then tried another reclamation project with Henson only to end up with a late round QB in Romo.

The only conclusion you can really draw from Parcell's past is that he is willing to try any route to get a stable QB position.
