after the Matt Lehr visit. At this point there are a bunch of scrubs left for the O-line, that are simply stop gap types. I'd like to see them bring in a guy like Mike Gandy though on a vet minimum or maybe another one of the guys with starting experience at the vet minimum. Just to flesh out the roster.

We need to build this line through the draft.

I think this has been the plan since the few big OL free agents signed early on. I think thats where the #9 pick is going as well as one of the 2 rounds. And if we do trade up like with Detroit like the rumors says, I think it will be for Joe Thomas.

It appears the Giants are out of the Matt Lehr sweepstakes. The Giants on Friday rejected Lehr's counteroffer and Lehr's agent doesn't think he will be in contact with them anymore.

I like that Houck has evaluated Lehr and believes he can help us...that gives me a little faith in the guy. IF the Dolphins draft Joe Thomas....I may sob in joy.

At this point in time you're not going to see any O-linemen who are good enough to start signing with us or any other team for the vet minimum. Not after some of the other contracts given to the likes of Dielman, Steinbach, Davis, Dockery, etc. Those inflated contracts are probably the major reason why we haven't seen more FA OL signings with the Dolphins.

The point is to build through the draft and bring in some vet's after the draft if you need them at vet minimum if you can. I wouldn't call Jacox a NFL starter by any means but he ended up that way last year. I'm talking about a vet with starting experience to backup and fill in as injuries emerge.

They did it with McIntosh last year(brought him in on a one year deal) and have done with numerous others in the past Fonoti, St. Clair etc......if these guys are given an opportunity to start or have an "open competition" for a starting spot they may take it as FA winds down...happens every year.

Where do these trading up rumors come from? To me it seems as if they are just media speculation. I have seen nothing saying that a "team source" or anyone like that give any validaty to these suposed rumors. All i've read is that Detriot is entertaining offers and Miami is going to mmet with both Russell and Quinn. But so is every other team in the top 10 and probably some out of it as well. I mean we are only one year removed from Leinert falling to #10. I actually think the thought of Miami trading up goes completely against what they've been doing or saying this offseason. They seem to be adding picks not trying to trade them away. Miami currently has 4 picks in the top three rounds. It would take atleast 3 of them to move up to #2. Not exactly something I want to do. And it wasn't to long ago that another media rumor (Quinn falling) was making the rounds and it looked like Quinn was going to last till our pick. The idea of taking him then was split 50/50, now we want to trade multiple picks for him. I say stay were we are or move down and start building this team through the draft. Draft a QB early, say a Stanton in the second or a Kolb or Edwards in the third. This team needs to be overhauled, and it needs to be done by hitting on as many draft picks as possible. The more picks you have the better the chances.

I agree with you, I think we should stand pat, I should have stressed "IF" we trade up which I hope we don't. I still think we go with OL with our first, Levi Brown the most likely target. Some may say its a reach, others don't, the fact is no one knows for sure how good any of these players will be. I am thinking along the same lines as you with the QB's.
