Dolphins sign another BC Lion

Maybe it has already been posted but the Dolphins signed Canadian Rolly Lumbala another a FB who played Collge in Idaho a few years back

http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=304908

It mentioned BC took him 9th overall in 2008. Admittedly, the talent pool they pick from might be a bit shallow but I thought it was interesting. Maybe he can knock some blocks off on ST.

EDIT: Apparently, we had him in for a look before...

EDIT Part II: And signed him at one point...

Maybe you know this already but CDN teams tend to shy away from players they know will be drafted or will sign to an NFL team because it wastes their draft pick out-right...

Lumbala is a CDN and that is the hardest position for these CDN teams to fill because of our silly CFL rules mandate that these CFL teams carry so many nationals (non-imports) and imports

He packs a special teams punch too

He packs a punch...

I wouldn't necessarily say that it's silly that there has to be a certain number of Canadians on each team; it's what keeps the league Canadian. Sure it reduces the caliber of the league but it wouldn't be Canadian football without Canadians.

Thanks for posting the signing.

I think it's silly, but i come from a free market capitalist society so our opinions will differ somewhat.
Look at the NBA, those guys are signing argentinians and spainiards et al. Think of the talent level if they ONLY signed Canadians (no offense, or you may spell it offence).

Maybe we should have called it the AFL instead of the NFL....i bet they pondered that somewhat.

I fully endorse this signing and hopefully he and Polite will kick *** next season .

Good to see we have some Hong Kong fin fans. :hi5:

Canadian import rule holds the league further back is what it does...

But there alot of good Canadians in the league who are getting their chance because of the rule. Im a Roughriders fan and alot of our best players are Canadian. :)

I think we've given this guy a looksee before, maybe he's improved since the last time he was here briefly in 2008?

Let's say there are 40 million CDNs and 8 teams to fill the ratio of CDN born players..., odds are pretty low that there are enough good to great Canadian born football players to go around for every team so the best CFL teams tend to hang onto their CDN talant - teams like the Riders...

The fans lose out on good football at the expense of the CDN ratio - is all...

Still, you want to promote the game and make sure that local players are developed. The CFL also ties alot of its marketing to the fact that it is Canadian. It's harder to make that claim if there are no Canadian players on the field.

If you scrap the non-import rule you might as well scrap the CFL. It's the homegrown talent that us Canadians have a special affection for, and makes the league unique. If we're just going to be a league of American imports, a second-rate farm system for the NFL, well, the Canadian consumer just won't buy it.

Lots of examples of that too. (E.g. Failed professional baseball/basketball/football teams or leagues based in Canada that were second-tier to the real league in the US).
