Dolphins sign Brandon Albert

Who is going to be the backup left tackle who will have to start when Albert misses his usual 3+ games. There were younger more durable players that signed for less money. Albert is a good pass blocker, below average run blocker and has injury concerns. Not all that impressed with the signing when there were better options available.

Yea because no other players ever get injured only the ones we sign.

maybe, we truly have no clue. We don't know all the offers he got or what he pursued we just have rumors. I mean u could say teams valued Saffold equal to or more than Monroe just based on his contract.
Monroe has always been a better LT than Albert even from college which is why Albert did not play LT in college. Doesn't really matter Albert is a good LT and hopefully line will get better. Long took less money last year to play elsewhere.
We thought ellerbee and Wheeler were better players and they were not. The consensus was that Monroe was the best lineman available, I have not talked with all 32 gms to see what they thought.

people see what they want to see. remember how all hailed Ireland last off season. The only false reports are the ones that don't paint the dolphins well.

Apparently

Albert has only played 16 full games once in his career, what makes you think that's going to change now? Monroe, Veldheer, and Collins were better options. Two of those guys signed for less money than the Dolphins paid Albert who is older, has had a chronic back problem and isn't a very good run blocker.

Narrow frame. I watched him last season after he was linked to the Dolphins and he seemed to be a player on the decline, and not particularly interested in run blocking. That's my concern, that we lose our tough identity on defense if Soliai leaves and now we sign a left tackle who is mostly a smart positional pass blocker but not exactly on the upswing and is not a natural fit toward increasing our rushing attempts.

Seems to me we are forcing greater reliance on pass offense and pass defense. Meanwhile, Patterson is gone. I'll wait for further moves. Right now it looks like slightly different specifics but the same caliber of overall roster. I'm not confident that the gap between Soliai and whoever we replace him with won't be greater than the gap between Albert and a minimum salaried veteran. That Soliai decision really bugs me.

They just asked on NFLN, who's had the best signing so far, and Marshall Faulk says Miami with the Albert signing..

Last I checked Free Agency did not end today and there is still the draft to deal with. Unless we have a game this Sunday these questions have time to be answered. Might be nice to let it all pan out a little before we start loving or killing these moves

I think Dallas Thomas has been doing work as backup left tackle. But right now, because we have no line, he's projected on the other side. (Albert, Brenner, Pouncey, Garner, Thomas). But that's just today. We will hopefully pick up a RT. Plus, there's the draft. Either way you shake it, we're going to have a mix of vets new to the team and a bunch of rookies or 2nd year guys. Scary, eh? Who knows, it may work out. We have 2 nice pieces in Albert and Pouncey right now.

BTW Monroe re-signed with the Ravens, which, the way thihgs were going, seemed to be what was gonna happen. He never wanted to leave and the Ravens never would have let him leave. So given that, our options weren't a lot.

Hate to break it to you Awsi, but we are a pass oriented team.

As for Soliai, we offered him a deal but he declined. The writing has been on the wall for awhile, Soliai just wanted out of Miami.

Veldheer missed as many games last year as Albert has in his entire career. also, Albert's back isn't why he missed time in 2013
