Many ignore his good plays and just focus on his errors
well
SPIKE, thats because his "errors" GREATLY outnumber the good plays or the not making any plays for long stretches.
i reminded a poster yesterday that this team has not had any big time talent for so long that if a guy makes two plays in a year, he becomes an untouchable.
wilson gets juked a LOT and and his tackling is sloppy. the kid gets an AAAA+++++ for effort, he tries very hard, very scrappy guy. but if you dont have the talent, that only carries you so far. we have seen all we are going to see from jimmy. he is tapped. as the seahawks showed everyone in the superbowl against the peyton manning Juggernaut, you have to have big time players across the board AND off the bench in the secondary to beat these high flying, high octane teams that are starting to sprout up everywhere and you can not have even ONE week link.
jimmy is a week link. as was nolan carrol. carrol is gone because hickey and philbin and coyal found replacements. or potential replacements. carrol had limited skills and wasnt physical. finnegan told everyone he was far from over and was returning to his old self, that it was a fluke and he has found a spark that has re dedicated him to his craft and if that first OTA was any indicator, we have one bad arse "jerk" refreshed and ready to ball as he was all over the practice field harrassing wr's, picking off tanny and just plain making life miserable for the offense.
the past regime talked and talked about needing to purge the bottom of the roster on a regular basis, creating roster spots to find hidden talent. unfortunately, they didnt do what they said they would. sparano acted like every player from 3rd string long snapper to the starting qb was golden and just let the roster stagnate. this was something parcells preached but for some reason it just didnt happen as they said it would.
its pretty damn obvious hickey saw this right off and has began that purge starting with the wr's and db's. we have a crap load of some pretty decent competition now and i see more to come as in a guard or two, at least one of those guards a veteran through a trade like mathis in philly or someone else after the cuts. lb's the same. we will see an influx of young udfa's coming in for those spots and probably a vet or two added in the mix.
THIS is how you create quality depth and how you find those over looked, surprise gems. it annoyed the hell out of me that we didnt do this enough in the past. and when the GM hunt was underway, i wanted someone who was commited to that philosophy.
so many times we have seen an opponents wr flying down the field with two or three of our defenders surrounding him and the ball comes down and the one who catches it is the wr, not one of the 2 or 3 of our db's who were all over him, letting the ball come right down into the wr's hands in the endzone for the td. and in just about all of those scenarios, jimmy wilson is one of those standing there with the "what just happened" look on his face. jimmy doesnt track the ball well at all and he gets exposed on double moves all the time. the better wr's and TE's expose him.
he will be replaced sooner than later. and its overdue!!
