I think you nailed it. They don't want to risk Clay to bust it in, but don't want a pure fullback on the roster who tips the defense's hat. If he shows some ability they might activate him to the roster.

But could be more in other areas Miami needs... hopefully he is someone that can be put back there and actually block, or more probable considering his height/size (6'3 245) and ability to play H-back, he could be the short yardage specialist we need, to finally help us make 3rd & 1 plays.

If as a FB, he can block like we should have signed Leach to do (and for those futile inches and goals), then welcome aboard - between the reformulated OL and maybe a FB blocker, Tannehill might actually have some time to act instead of react.

His last year here he couldnt convert on those short yardage plays anymore and turned into a revolving door in pass pro and run blocking
