Dolphins sign Holmes, waive Heller
November 5, 2005

MIAMI (AP) -- The Miami Dolphins signed tight end Alex Holmes from their practice squad and released tight end Will Heller on Saturday.

Heller played in seven games this season for the Dolphins, scoring a 1-yard touchdown on his only catch of the season against the Buffalo Bills on Oct. 9.

Holmes was placed on the practice squad after catching 10 passes for 95 yards in the preseason as an undrafted rookie out of Southern California.

Was wondering what was happening with him!

Intresting, I wonder if he will be active for the game? I guess there wouldent be much point in signing him otherwise would there?

I think Holmes may actually end up getting a chance to make it on the field sometime soon.

The Dolphins want an H-Back. I think they thought Heath Evans could fill the roll, but he ended up playing FB only. Lorenzo Diamond didnt seem like he did so hot lead blocking vs. the Saints, either. I remember reading something after Evans was released, that Diamond and Morris would play and Holmes would get a shot.

Alex Holmes is built alot like the guy that Scott Linehan used as an H-Back in Minnesota... Jim Kleinsasser.

It seems like that we can now put McMike back into the passing game, since Holmes and Barnes are both blocking type guys.

I didn't think Heller played that bad when he was given a chance. I wonder if Holmes was brought in because he's more of a blocker. IMO, it's kind of like trading a dollar for 4 quarters.

Look for AH to see quite a bit of time leading RXR through the LOS tomorrow.

This is also an example of shrewd timing. I believe Heller is still eligible for the practice squad...and it is unlikely another team will make a waiver claim at this point into their game preparations.

Possibly, or it could just be Saban wanting to take a look at more guys since the Dolphins are looking more and more like they need overhauls in areas.
