Dolphins sign James Daniels

There is probably alot going on in Pittsburgh but a 3.4 mil contract for Daniels isn’t going to break their 🏦.

They let Harris walk. Do you think if Harris played his position like Watt does his, they would let Harris walk?

They historically let players walk like Joey Porter, when they KNOW his play is declining but other teams like the Dolphins over pay, when that player hits free agency.

I don’t have anything figured out, I was just posing a initial question as to why would the Steelers let a top free agent @ his position walk when said free agent wasn’t commanding a kings ransom?
Maybe because Daniels wanted to come to Miami if the money was close to equal? Crazy notion, I know, how could any good player want to sign with the dysfunctional Dolphins?

When he hasn’t been nominated for a single pro bowl in his NFL career and someone says we are getting an All-Pro, that doesn’t paint the correct narrative either. 😂

Dude is coming off major injury and is being asked to play in a zone scheme, you don’t think there is any risk with this signing considering his former team, which is a pretty well run organization (Steelers) that has $65 mill in cap space, let him walk instead of resigning him?
They used to be, but they ain't won a playoff game since 2016, five years before Big Ben retired. So to expect them to never make tactical errors isn't a sure thing anymore.
As I said already, to re-sign Daniels would also require Daniels wanting to re-sign there.

So you are saying the Steelers wanted him but he would much rather play for a team that has won 1 playoff game in the last 25 years. 👍

Don't think its a matter of Steelers wanting him or not. Their OL room is pretty deep as it is. They will need to make roster cuts either way and most likely preferred to save money and go with younger players. Or Daniels wanted a multi-year contract and Steelers only wanted to do yearly. Who knows. I wouldn't paint a narrative that says hes a Steelers castoff or something, hes been a good player.

The point you are trying to make isn't even all that relevant to begin with... every single guy being signed this week was let go by their previous team...

I live in pittsburgh so I hear all the local talk shows. It was said since last since that steelers were going to move on from him because they drafted three lineman in the last year. They basically have a lot of depth there. He wanted to sign extension with steelers last summer but they knew they had mason McCormick reading to take over. There thought was groom the rookie and then let him take over instead of paying daniels. Basicallly both of you guys are right. Daniels is good players but the steelers didn't see the value in giving him money with cheap second year guard waiting in the wings

let it go, i said basically the same thing (other than the live in pittsburg part)

Right now, I'd use a very erasable pencil and GUESS that this is the plan:

LT: Paul, Smith, Hayes
LG: Daniels, Hines, Hayes
C: Brewer, Meyer
RG: (Banks, Campbell or Membou), Borom
RT: Jackson, Borom

Hines, Hayes, and Meyer are all young, no-resume players, so expecting more than one of them to stick is optimistic at best. On the plus side, if we do draft a Guard (and I think we will), whoever sticks will be our 9th or 10th man.
