It didn't take K.J. Gerard long before he became a star at Northern Arizona. His combination of size, speed, and playmaking ability was a great asset to Northern Arizona as he shutdown opponents' best WRs and also helped the NAU defense to be one of the best defending the run. Despite QBs throwing his way less and less over the years, Gerard managed to continue picking off passes and being a difference maker. If it were not for his missed junior season after getting injured in the season opener, there's a real chance that Gerard would have been drafted last year.
Scout profile:
"Not a speed burner, but he is incredibly athletic and displays excellent ball skills. Gerard holds the NAU school record for interceptions with 19, tied for the fifth-best total in Big Sky history. He finished his career ranked tied for first in interceptions among active career leaders in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and Division I overall with 19. Gerard is one of 16 finalists for the Buchanan Award."
"Fine athlete who has gotten bigger and stronger every year. Fine anticipation skills, and hands. Some project Gerard to FS due to his 6'1.2" 187 frame and mid 4.5 speed, but he should also receive consideration as a Cover-2 corner."
He is projected as a priority UDFA
The Dolphins worked him out in march.
