dolphins sign larry johnson

i just hope these guys have a backup plan...if when reggie bush gets injured cause odds are damn good he will at some point and d thomas is gonna take an awful lot of hits the way he runs...and i hope that backup plan isn't lj and hilliard...cause we're gonna be in a world of hurt if it shakes out like that
God forbid that Bush gets hurt, Thomas will be asked to carry the full time load and either LJ or Hilliard will be the guy softening the workload. Rookie running backs taken much later in the drafts have been able to be a fulltime workhorse. Is it ideal? No, but even if Thomas is coming along slower than they hoped, I am sure they still have enough confidence to allow him to be a #1.

Now, this is all assuming that something bad is going to happen to Bush and he will miss time. The main plan is NOT for that to happen. If it does happen they have their #2 draft pick to step in and have a veteran in Hilliard or LJ to share some of the burden. You can't have three Pro Bowl running backs just because you are scared that one of them might get hurt. In a perfect world, Bush and Thomas share the load and a guy like Hilliard or LJ get a couple of carries here in there. In a non-perfect world(Bush gets hurt) you go with the rookie and a veteran backup. Or maybe Thomas goes down and they need a power back to team with Bush and in comes LJ or Hilliard again.

Also, if any of the top two get hurt, it doesn't necessarily mean they have to go with LJ and Hilliard in the rotation, they can always sign another free agent off the street. Heck, maybe our 3rd string running back isn't even on the roster at the moment. The LJ signing to me is more of a kick the tires kind of signing. In just under two weeks he could easily be sent packing and the Dolphins could claim another back off waivers.

At this point, he's probably better at beating women than he is at beating a defender on the football field. He used to be really good at both.

i'm just glad we are finally done letting sheets take up a roster spot. whether johnson makes the team or not is not a big deal. its just good to know we are starting to look for other options other than the same garbage. they really need to decide on hilliard too.

I agree, and maybe it also sends a message to Thomas that he needs to pick up the pace a bit? After seeing how the RB situation has now played out, wouldn't it have been really nice to re-sign Ronnie or Ricky to a 1 year deal as soon as we had the chance? They provide far better depth than anyone we have now.

Signing them wasn't so easy. Neither wanted to take the low salary that they had in the past. LJ is training camp fodder at worst, with potential upside.

I don't see any value in adding Johnson. Sheets wasn't going to make the roster, so maybe we're just taking a look at Johnson. Was there not anyone better... like ANYONE???

This team continues to amaze me with their lowballing tactics. A team with 90% backups and broken down aging players.

Ugh!

You are talking about the Argonauts from your CFL right????

Everyone keeps saying we should've kept Ricky. Why is that such a good idea? What if the front office made the right moves? Noone knows so stop complaining and enjoy what we have! He even said himself that he has been waiting for a long time to be a FA. Why is everyone acting like Ricky was walking around south beach waiting for the phins to call. Get real. LJ might not be ricky williams but they both past they prime. As long as LJ is healthy and in shape this can't hurt us.

Go Phins!

Just to defend the front office a little, they thought they were getting Chris Johnson

We needed someone, this new kid Thomas cannot block to save his life and no way in hell Bush will be expected to block.

This signing shows that they will do just about anything now. I just hope it doesn't screw up Thomas' development.

This is strange but at the same time its good to have veteran experience back there. Really hoped they would have kept Ricky he was the better runner on the R&R train.
