Dolphins sign LB Chris McCain

And we will watch Lyerla excel with Green Bay while we watch Lynch be a mediocre talent with us. Was not excited about the Lynch pick at all. He is slow footed and will be no threat in the passing game in the NFL. Lynch is Joey Haynos 2.0

There were around 6 guys with character issues. Aiken, two Johnson boys at DT, Fede, Williams, and McCain. That is a relatively high number of guys with checkered pasts. I want to see leadership among the veterans. I mean vocal leadership.
What is Fede's problem? I didn't realize that he had character issues.

He will excel at snorting coke. Whine so more.

" better" than lynch? what kind of TE were the pack looking for? a down the field pass catch specialist [ala charles clay] or were they looking for a blocking, in line TE with catch abilities like we were?

no one ever takes into consideration the scheme or what a team might be looking for at the time. with us, we already have the down field threat with clay. we did not have ONE TE on the roster who can block and that was another part of the 58 o-line last year that was a problem. it had to be addressed.

one of the HUGE reasons our drafts havnt produced over the last dozen or so years is because our gm's were not drafting to the scheme. they would draft a guy and try to push him into a fit. all these teams that always seem to be able to draft well. if some one goes down or leaves via f/a, they always have someone to plug right in [like billichek, the and the pack, etc.... .]. the buffalo bills under marv levy were like that and it infuriated me!!! its not luck or magic. its having a scheme and a plan and drafting to that scheme. the right parts for the job. how many times over the years have we drafted o-line guys and they fail and are let go and they thrived on other teams? this is why. wrong players for the job.

hickey seems to be this kind of guy. this draft was full of guys who not only fit the scheme but filled the GLARING needs we had going in to this draft. hopefully we can draft BPA through the draft in the next couple years as the meat and potato's of the team will be in place and producing.

people have missed on this with hickeys draft. they havnt paid attention to the scheme and why they chose certain players. most of the guys the wanted and raved about were NOT FITS for our scheme and everyone has wrote hickey off as being dumb and passing over guys like moses or giving up the greater portion of our draft to move up for another guy who wouldnt work in our scheme. the top guys everyone ga-ga's over were ALL power scheme players. slow footed, straight ahead meat grinders who were not real athletic and not adept at getting into the second level like the zbs scheme demands.

and with 6 picks, we would have had one guy who wasnt a scheme fit and MAYBE 2 more late round whatevers. AND being short a draft pic or two going into next years draft. trading UP was just not an option and trading down and risking losing the player they had pegged all along and the ONLY tackle left that fit the scheme with any real game wasnt happening either.

all this "yeah, but hickey could have traded with the saints and they didnt do it". all RUMOR!!! No facts!! wanny or ireland would have done exactly what most of the fans wanted and it would have been ANOTHER mass failure in the years of dolphin bad drafts. hickey played this and planed it as he should have. for fit and to the scheme.and having great character guys and team leaders was the icing on the cake. an unseen perk.

Interesting take but I have another theory. You say the GM brings in good talent but it never developes here and goes elsewhere and has a good career, and too many times you are correct. My theory is not about "fit", it's about coaching. A good teacher can get the most out of the talent that comes his way. Look at what we have on the DL, it doesn't seem to matter what kind of fit we bring in they seem to work out a lot better than most other positions, and it is one of the strongest units on the team. Rodgers I believe is the DL coach and he seems to be doing a great job developing talent. On the OL it doesn't matter who we bring in they were all looking like first year rookies by mid season and got worse not better normally.

You say "fit" is the answer, and maybe your right. I say it's about coaching. If Turner and James turns out to be first year starters this year and Landry takes over in the slot, then maybe you can convince me, but to date I think the evidence is more in my favor. Time will tell.
