<A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/164">Mike Reiss, of the Boston Globe, reports 154 veteran NFL free agents signed with new teams while 104 re-signed with their old clubs, according to figures provided by the NFL. The Miami Dolphins signed the most unrestricted free agents from other teams (11), followed by the Houston Texans and Detroit Lions at 10 apiece. The Buffalo Bills, New York Jets, and Washington Redskins were next in line with eight. In total, there were 353 unrestricted free agents this year. The total player pool is approximately 1,700.

Well this just tells me, that Saban and crew are tying to get as many people in here to make our team better. This also shows that Huzuinga (bad spelling I know) backs up what he says....money is no object and that he wants to win. Thats a great combo right there...the Wayne and Saban combo. I'll biggie size that combo anyday. As fans, no doubt we should be proud of our Owner and Coach...trust me around the league, lots of fans hate one or the other...or both.

No compensatory picks in 2007.

Exactly. But wait until the comp picks are announced and the Phins get zero. Some guys here will be screaming about how the NFL is out to get the Dolphins.
Seriously, it will happen.

Not a fan of comp picks

I would rather get a proven veteran who has been evaluated and tested in the NFL then a 6th-8th rd pick. Only for the fact of knowing what talent I'm getting. A proven commidity.
I do understand that you can get great value in a 5th and 6th rd pick (Zach), but its always a gamble, I do realize you pay alot more for a proven veteran but it tends to be money in the bank.

for one there has not been an 8th round in a looooong time.

second comp. picks range from the 3rd-7th round. you can find a future Hall Of Famer in those rounds.

actually the formula for determing compensatory picks is more complex than just us signing more players than we lost....

yes it is.......but it has already been determined that we will get none next year.

from http://www.gbnreport.com/

Pats, Ravens look to win comp pick sweepstakes… The window of opportunity for NFL teams to sign unrestricted veteran free agents closed over the weekend. And while league accountants still have to figure out all the final specifics, it appears that both New England and Baltimore are likely to get the maximum number of compensatory picks for the 2007 draft........

........On the other hand, teams which will definitely NOT be getting comp picks this year include Buffalo, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Washington and the Jets. The allotment of compensatory draft picks is determined by a complicated formula which factors in the net loss of veteran free agents for each team, as well as the value of the contracts signed. Comp picks are usually announced about a month before the actual draft.

Saban is trying to revamp from the Wrongstadt depletion of the org. He want's as little to do w/ that as possible.

Dave had chances to get FA's and decided not to spend on them. Fool!!!!

You can't ask to sign reduced number of free-agents and expect to contend for playoffs or mention Superbowl in this year or next. I beleive the Bellichik did the same thing when he started in New England. Bring on proven veterans, bring in good draftees, blend them together and build a sustaining club.

If we want to have things happen this year we need FA. I suppose it won't be as radical next year - but you never know. We may have FA banging on our door once we prove to be a well managed, well coached team with strong backbone to continue the progress towards superiority in the future.

I know what you're getting at, but Mark Clayton was an 8th rounder.

Yeah in 1983. It's amazing you remember being that you were one and all.

Dewayne Gordon was our last 8th round pick in 1993.

Kids. Geez. :shakeno:
