@TesslerSports: The Miami Dolphins are signing Raheem Mostert (RB/KR, Purdue) to their 53-man roster off the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad today.

@TesslerSports: Mostert led NFL in yds from scrimmage & total yds this preseason w/ Philadelphia Eagles & will likely be the Miami Dolphins kick returner.

Not a player I know, but interesting

Huge get for Miami at a place of need.

Will be the best KR on the Phins since Ginn the Jet-killer.

LD
p.s. which isn't saying much, lol. Bess, anyone? lol

I'd rather we signed Christian Jones. I liked what he did as a returner

Aside from the battle under center, Mostert made a closing case for the fourth-string running back position, with 15 carries for 69 yards and eight catches for 93 yards.

"It was kind of one of those things, like a feel, throughout the game," Mostert said of his heavy usage. "I felt like [running backs coach] Duce [Staley] was really helpful with me, and stuff like that, and told me, 'Raheem, you know what? You got to just fight through it. Whatever happens, just fight through it.'

"Because I was on special teams and all that other stuff, so I just had to continue to fight."

Kenjon Barner, Mostert's competitor for the job, was scarcely featured on the night, making three carries for 7 yards. Barner, who played under Chip Kelly at Oregon from 2009-12, carried the ball only 15 times in four preseason games, but made his mark early, with two punt returns for touchdowns in the Eagles' first two preseason games.

Mostert, a 5-10, 195-pound Purdue product, took over Barner's kickoff return duties against the Jets last night, totaling 77 yards on three returns.

"I was just really trying to focus on the task at hand and tried to make a couple big plays out there, help the team out; that was my main focus," he said. "I thought I did a pretty good job, but there's always room for improvement, so I really tried my best and that's all I can do."

The 23-year-old from New Smyrna Beach, Fla., did just about everything he could last night to give himself a shot at making the final roster, but it might not be enough to earn a role in the Eagles' fearsome running attack, which features 2014 rushing leader DeMarco Murray, former All-Pro Ryan Mathews and versatile playmaker Darren Sproles.

Mostert's future with the Eagles is hanging in the balance, but leaving Philadelphia wouldn't necessarily mean he'd lose his shot at the NFL this season.

He totaled 10-plus carries in three of the team's four preseason games and turned out 170 yards rushing, with a rate of 4.35 yards per rush, creating a nice highlight reel for potential suitors if he doesn't make Kelly's final cut.
