Dolphins sign TE Brett Backett to practice squad, Livas will not join Fins PS

You can't give a guy a roster spot based on one nice play. It was a good return, and he only had a few opportunities other than that, but Little Scamper Legs doesn't contribute enough to warrant taking a roster spot from a guy like Marlon Moore just because he has speed.

And I guess they didn't see enough out of him in practice to warrant a PS spot either compared to the other guys.

Very true but why give him all of the KR/PR duties in the last two games.

He has skills that are more natural than most krs. He doesn't waste movement and has the speed to take advantage. Watch his college highlights and you see this more clearly. He did appear to have some trouble with balance on some of the fields. He lost his balance or was easy to bring down with minimum contact. That might have gotten him cut.

I think giving him all the returns the last few games was to give him a chance, every other returner on our team we already kind of know what we have. I just don't think you want to waste a spot on your PS for a returner and Livas just didn't show enough as a WR to be given that opportunity.

The mental dullness/blind-deaf-dumb syndrome around here often amazes me.

(1) LIVAS made MORE than just ONE good return. You people aren't thinking--or are just Homies. LIVAS ran up fast to field at least 4 short Punts that I can remember (2 in the last game), and not let ANY of them bounce. A low, line-drive type of punt will roll/bounce or bounce/roll for 10-20 yards if you let it hit the ground. And if it DOES hit the ground, only BAD things can happen!! Do any of you remember stupid GATES letting a punt hit the ground a while back? It bounced right between his legs w/o touching him (lucky for us!), and rolled about 10 yards to i/s MIAMI's 10. Remember that at all, anyone? So, when I read a post by some Jerk McGurk on this site saying LIVAS only got 5 yards on such a "return", I just have to laugh my a** off. And as far as being a WR, on the only chance I saw LIVAS get, he ran a quick, short slant for an easy 1st Down, showing UNBELIEVABLE speed and quickness: and w/no apparent fear of taking a hit. Not like GINN, wouldn't you say? And both quicker and faster than BESS could even DREAM of doing! Ditto, HARTLINE, and ditto MOORE, and ditto WALLACE, and maybe PRUITT. The only ones who come close are GATES and maybe R BUSH. There have been MANY "Smurfs" who made it bigtime in the NFL. But I guess you can't tell that to PARCELLSIAN boneheads like SPARANO and IRELAND.

(2) SPEARS--Totally stupid, thinking that SPEARS would make it to the P/S. TOTALLY STUPID!!!! Everyone in the NFL has Scouts, and access to tapes of every team. SPEARS, an OLB, showed maturity as a pass rusher, "moves", strength and blazing speed. Could he use a little more bulk? Maybe. He's 6'5"/239. But TAYLOR has always played at 6'6"/245. Everyone once said that you couldn't expect J TAYLOR to play SOLB, and "set the edge"...UNTIL HE DID IT, playing SOLB to accommodate the C*CKS"CK'R formerly known as "JOEY PORTER". Anyone remember THAT? So, SPEARS will now bulk up for CLEVELAND, and if he turns out to be another great pass-rushing OLB--maybe another J TAYLOR, or (GOD FORBID) another L TAYLOR--it'll be for CLEVELAND, and all WE DOLFANS get to do is think about what MIGHT HAVE BEEN, and curse out ROSS and the 2 BONEHEADS, and we end up getting more d*ck up our a**es while CLEVELAND gets the gravy.

MARVELOUS!!! Are you out there at all, ROSS? Do you give a sh*t?

IN a year the odds are Livas will be looking for a new profession

That's a very good question.

I don't know the answer, but IMHO ... they considered keeping him, right up until final cuts, & another pulled in front of him by a small margin. It usually comes down to that for Roster & Practice Squad.

IMHO (& I liked Livas) ... I don't get excited & worry about the bottom 10 guys or so. There's little chance they'll play much or even be on the team in a couple years. Our two 7-9 Seasons & Vegas' 7.5-win odds = Three-Peat ... means we'll see plenty of Roster Churn in the next couple years.

There's only a few players left from the 11-5 team ... all those upgrades & look at the results ... Yikes!!

Livas is obviously much less valuable to the team than Spitler.

I remember watching Livas let a ball bounce around the 10 against Dallas. Beginning of the 2nd QTR, could've been bad but the ball bounced forward so idk what the fuss about him not letting the ball bounce is.

Why not sign Livas? Very confused

i guess so far the rest of the league is confused since so far noone has signed him. dont worry though he took my order at pollo tropical and got everything correct

You bring a guy in solely to return kicks because he's known for that, and he returns a TD in the first game along with other good returns that game. Then he never gets an oppurtunity to return anything in the next 2 out of 3 games because they kick out of bounds or short and there is no blocking and he has to always fair catch. Yet he doesn't make mistakes and makes all the right decisions. What more could you expect--it doesn't get better than that.

Maybe Spitler, Mustard, Ikaika Francis, Baker, Merling, John Jerry, Columbo, and 6WRS would give us a better chance of winning.

I just don't get it, Livas could have actually made an impact at a position where we pretty much have nothing and a lot of the people that you mentioned above will be inactive each week. Whether Livas was the next Devon Hester is not important, the fact that he is clearly better than anyone on our roster at returning punts and kicks is very important. If they put Bush back there and he gets hurt, I will be so pissed off that I may never watch another Fins game until Ireland and Sparano are gone. Last I checked, field position is critical to Sparano's game plan, right? Strong return games change field position for the better, dumb-a**!
