Dolphins have signed WR LaRon Byrd to the practice squad. Byrd is a former University of Miami player who originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals in 2012. Byrd is 6'4" 220 and he ran a 4.45 in the 40 at pre draft workouts in 2012.

Very familiar with Byrd. His career at the U was a huge disappointment. Terrible route runner that struggles to get separation...did have a nice preseason with Arizona a couple of years ago IIRC. He's got size...obviously Hickey wants to upgrade the WR corp with some size...this is the 2nd former player from the U he's signed that's tall with some speed (Tommy Streeter the other). Not sure Byrd sticks though.

Another UofM WR on the PS along with Streeter. Wonder who they dropped.

Streeter's not on the PS any more. Got released about 2 or 3 weeks ago.

We've got two QBs on the practice squad for some reason. One of them needs to go.

We had an opening on the p-squad when CB Lowell Rose was promoted before the Bears game. So nobody needs to be cut.

Rose may be back on the squad before the end of this week. Need to make room for Dion Jordan.

Didn't know they released Streeter, thanks for the heads up. Thought he'd do something considering he had size and speed.

True, but Jordan is going to have to earn his playing time, the defense has been playing lights out for him to come out and do his best impression of the invisible man.

Is Byrd any better than Streeter, though? It's a very good sign that Hickey is looking at receivers with length and good catch radius. I hope this portends that we get a decent one in the draft. A nice tall red zone target at receiver and another at TE would be great for this offense.

I like Hickey's approach. Too bad he wasn't here the years we had extra picks. Who knows who we might have gotten.

Another highly touted recruit that faded out during his time at Miami due to poor coaching and awful QBs. Maybe he benefits from next level coaching.

I'll never forget being right in the corner of the end zone of Scott Stadium in Virginia when Jacory hit Byrd very late in the fourth quarter to tie the game. What a wild game.

I thought Streeter was cut from the PS?

Watching video of Byrd and he does have good speed to get down the field. Can high point the ball. Hopefully a guy who can pan out with good coaching.

IMO Byrd is better than Streeter. Streeter has speed and size but he's an even worse route runner than Byrd and he has hands of stone. Byrd can at least catch, and he's pretty good at jump balls where Streeter was...meh.
