I guess I just don't get how we can keep pouring resources into ST when we are an injury away from a complete disaster at OL. We have had 2 opportunities to address OL depth in the past 2 weeks and we've yet to do anything about it.
Forget the level of play we are getting out of our starters, we have nothing at backups. And as obvious at Albert's current health is at this point, why are we not addressing T? I'm not even concerned with exactly who is available. You mean to tell me with all of the depth needs at OL we have, Terrell Manning was a more important use of a roster spot.
And before anyone mentions who is or is not available, I offer a very simple illustration to our general ignoring of the OL: Against the Jags, we suited up 7 OL. Forget the injury Albert did sustain or his injury history, he IS STILL RECOVERING from a massive injury and has returned in a miraculous short time.... but we still ignore the obvious concern that due to his short recovery window he is still recovering and extra insurance is a no brainer. It wouldn't matter it was Pouncey or James recovering from the same injury in the same time.... you simply don't keep yourself exposed to such an obvious risk.
Let's not forget Sims is out and Stoneburner is the only other TE we have. If Albert goes out in a game and another OL goes out, who do we sub in next? Forget the problems we do have, we can't even field an entire OL if we have 3 guys out for any period of time. Let's not forget substituting for fatigue. I guess we bring in Denney and let him be C (the closest position to his natural position) and hope we don't need him to hold a block for very long.
Hickey might get the talent, but Philbin manages the game day roster. This is beyond idiotic.
At this point, who cares about ST? I don't see how Terrell Manning or his roster spot wins us a game. But I'm sure we could list a few other positions of need that may contribute to a victory or loss, if not addressed.
