There was a promising offensive sign buried beneath the avalanche of disappointment in Sunday's 27-13 victory at Jacksonville: the Dolphins got "explosive" plays.
Coach Joe Philbin considers an "explosive" offensive play any run for more than 12 yards or any pass completion for more than 16 yards.
On Snday, running back Lamar Miller and quarterback Ryan Tannehill each had a 30-yard run, wide receiver Mike Wallace had a 50-yard reception, tight end Dion Sims had a 38-yard reception, and wide receiver Brian Hartline had a 19-yard reception. That's five explosive plays and four far eclipsed the Philbin's minimum yardage total.
None went for touchdowns, but they were key plays in drives that netted 20 points. And for an offense that hasn't showed much in the way of big-play ability, this was, well, big.

And those big plays are overlooked because the Jags possessed the ball most of the first half painting a mirage of how the game actually played out. Again, not a great showing but it was not nearly as bad as some want to paint it. Most importantly it's a win.

Seeing the words "disappointment" and "victory" in the same sentence makes me chuckle

Finally some deep balls. So much for Tannehill can't throw deep. That Wallace throw was out of his own end zone 50 yards while scrambling. Perfect throw. I like what I see from my QB.

Tannehill can't throw deep consistently. You'd have to be in denial to not ackowledge that. Yesterday guys like Brees, Palmers, Luck, and Roethlisbegrer had multiple deep balls right on the money. I'm a huge Tannehill supporter but it's unavoidable to not recognize the deep ball is his biggest weakness. And what makes it worse is we have one of the biggest deep threat players in the game whose been shoehorned into an entirely new role because of this weakness by our QB.

I agree to this point it looks bad as far as RT17's deep ball. I'm still think it's possible it looks that way because the coaches and RT17 himself lack total faith in the OL. IMO it's like anything else, trust has to be earned. Especially when that trust is broken RT17 could be on the injured reserve. Most times he seems rushed when he attempts a deep pass. Sometimes it's imagined pressure, but it seems more often than not it is real concern on his part.

Wallace and RT had to learn the new offense first. It seems to me they are ready to break out.

and for the mention of the above QB's....how long they been doing it? How long RT been around?

Its wax on wax off.....then break out the good stuff.

besides, the more Wallace and RT strike long the more Wallace will be cash all day long short with big cushions so I am ready for this offense to take another step in the next few games even though tough schedule. Its not all going to be pretty but people have to understand the progression.

Steelers looked like crap weeks ago and now they put up 51 and they are great all of a sudden? Its many differnet variables involved, but if you got the tools and talent, you will eventually hit.

There is no question RT struggles with the deep ball. You can see it.

However, I expect that to improve over time. It is not a fatal flaw, nor does it prevent him from moving the offense. You still have to take your shots and hitting on them from time to time helps soften up that defense.

Yes...thank you!

RT17 has better accuracy and touch on the deep ball when he is on the move. In the pocket, he is a mid range passer.
All of this "getting in sync" "Chemistry" and "timing down" is just BS.
RT is a mid range pocket passer. From the pocket, he struggles with the deep ball.
Getting him outside on designed plays or broken plays would work better.

In three years you have never seen Tannehill actually play with a trustworthy pocket.

Never.

Maybe you and others should hold their "pocket" wisdom until he actually can play with an NFL caliber pocket on passing downs.

Yeah it seems like when he sees Wallace open he gets too excited and goes too fast through his motion. If he would just have some confidence in that throw and slow it down he may end up getting a respectable deep ball. But I know very little about qb coaching. :/

Fair enough. I am basing my evaluation from what he has done. Just my .02
I am not knocking RT, just my observation that he passes better while on the run.
This oline has looked pretty good in some games this year.
