After all, this biblical term is synonymous with sheer strength and will. Although second-round draft pick Samson Satele -- who hasn't cut his hair since 2002 -- won't be pushing down pillars any time soon, he is expected to create quite a push up the middle for Miami's upstart offensive attack.

As his first name would suggest, Satele is extremely powerful. His low center of gravity and mighty hand punch make him an ideal centerpiece for the power running attack that head coach Cam Cameron plans to employ. And benching 225 pounds 29 times doesn't hurt either. Combine these measurables with Satele's innate capacity for downright nastiness and you've got yourself a prototypical NFL center
 
Powerful hips, quick feet, great technique ...and nasty attitude makes a nice combination.
 
I was hoping we'd be able to take Kalil...but I'm pretty excited to see what Satele can do.
 
I too wanted Kalil but once he got off the board, I was on my knees with my fingers crossed hoping that our next pick would be Samson Satele.

I was also excited to get Kalil, he was falling to us, but was taking one spot before us. I was a bit pissed. However, I am pretty sure if Kalil had fallen to us, the Dolphins would have still taken Satele.
I am excited. I am truly hoping both our secondary and our oline will rebound this year.

I'm glad we got Satele.... big guy that can really lean on and drive trough defensive tackles during the 4th quarter on those hot sunny Miami afternoons. The one game last year our team looked more tired than the other (and which we also lost) was the Jaguars.... Maurice Drew-Jones breaking through the middle and scoring the touchdown just killed me...along with us making white guy QB turned WR Matt Jones? look All Pro :(

i think i read this on this board that kalil is a zone blocker and is more suited for that where samson is more suited for huack blocking scheme. i too was a little dissapointed when kalil went right before us but couldn't be happier now w/ the somoan connection. the whole draft kind of felt that way for me, dissapointment to a happier feeling when i realized what we were doing. let's hope it all pans out. it's good to know that this guy is that powerful and plays w/ attitude.
 
Kalil is the SUPERIOR center to Satele. Kalil also benched for 11 MORE reps than satele.. And when people say Kalil is just a zone blocker it's just an assinine statement.. He isn't . He can play in any scheme.. And besides, Kalil is the SUPERIOR run blocker to Satele. He is superior technically over Satele, he is faster than Satele, and Kalil is stronger than him..

All this thread is about is to hype Satele.. When Kalil is BY FAR the superior player.. In all facets ...
 
I agree with your college assessment of Kalil versus Satele, but there were combine drills where Satele excelled over Kalil. Bottom line: Kalil was snatched at 59 and Satele was taken @ 60. The initial feeling is Kalil was a steal at 59 and Satele taken about right. Who knows what Mueller would have done if Kalil was there? We got to go with what we got.

Yeah but I doubt Kalil can handle the heat and humidity like the Hawaiian brah. :wink:
