Dolphins rookie kicker Caleb Sturgis started out red hot this year by going 10 for 10 on field goal attempts. Those were the good days. Bad days have followed.
Sturgis, who is battling a groin injury in his right (kicking) leg, missed five of his next six field goal attempts, including a 34-yarder in the first quarter against Cincinnati, before steadying the ship. He hit a 36-yader in the second quarter before passing the big test, a 44-yarder with 11 seconds to go to tie the score at 20 and send the game into overtime. The Dolphins went on to win, 22-20, ending a four-game losing streak.
"I'm confident in what I can do," Sturgis said.
"I think there's a reason why I'm here, and I think the coaches and players are confident in me, and I'm confident in the offensive line, snapper and holder. Now it's just about going out and doing our jobs."
Sturgis' points are crucial for the Dolphins (4-4), possibly even in Monday's game at winless Tampa Bay (0-8).
