Dolphins | Team never looked to trade down

MiamiDolphins.com reports Miami Dolphins head coach Nick Saban never looked to trade down in the first round of the NFL Draft, instead opting to select rookie DB Jason Allen at No. 16. "I'm sure you're interested – did we try to trade down? We had an opportunity to trade down and decided to pick the player that we had targeted for that position," Saban said.

Sorry if this was posted. Went back 5 pages and didn't see it. It may have been posted in another thread. Looks like Saban really wanted Allen.

They were even thinking about trading up to get Jason Allen or Ngata so that just shows you that Jason was in fact the best player available at the #16 spot.

I have a good feeling about him !
at least our Secondary is lookin pritty good much better than last year !

Lets get JR. SEAU back in the LB mix and were back baby!

hmm, dont know how i feel about this. i mean, it says a lot about Allen because of how much Saban values draft choices, but at the same time, it might have been advantageous for us to trade down considering the deep talent pool at DB in this years draft.

Our team looks very, very solid. We can add a capable backup rb, outside linebacker, qb,center, and another safety if we chose to.There are some very, very good udfa still on the market, we can make our team even better.

Yeah ... from what Saban said afterwards, he thought the value of Allen at #16 was just too great to pass up even though he considered that the secondary was not as big of an issue heading into the offseason.

Judging by what I saw about Ngata though (I hadn't seen anything about him before), I'm glad that we didn't get him.

i feel very good about sabans confidence in allen and i know they already had a history before that so i think allen will really work hard and improve under saban....now as we learn more about allen and all his positives im seeing less people on this board going against the decision, what i really think it was that no one knew him and they were looking for the big name guy in lawson and yea he would of done great with us and would of been nasty at olb but he fell to 22 to the 49ers and they had a great draft

I think Jason Allen will a great addition to our team. I'm from Knoxville, TN..and there was an article in this morning's paper about Saban coming up here to meet with Coach Fulmer...said they had a long talk about him and Saban is quoted in the paper as saying he is extremely, extremely excited to get Allen. I'm excited because I picked Allen as who we would draft in round 1 in that contest on miamidolphins.com, so hopefully I should have some preseason tickets coming to me! Here's a pic I figured everyone would get a kick out of..

Saban said in his interview the only offer they got for our 1st was for about half of what the pick was worth according to the draft pick value chart. After saying that he said they didn't really think about making a trade cause they had no other offers.

Miami still has holes to fill. In my opinion i think we should add a linebacker like jamie sharper or peter boulware, and maybe sign back lance schulters for the safety position. We need one more safety. Schulters and Jason Allen as our safeties would be a solid secondary. Wr`s are set. With the addition of young talent (maybe another chris chambers might pop up with the addition of Derek Hagan & Devin Aromashodu) Devin played with Ronnie Brown in Auburn. Ronnie Brown knows this guy and he knows he can play. Derek Hagan could end up like Chris Chambers being a solid reciever. Backup QB should be settled soon with joey harrington going to miami. But i want miami to give Marcus Vick a chance. I hope they sign him. Finally, with the Running backs we have i want miami to sign stephen davis to a 1yr deal because minor and morris just wont cut it.

love the sig

After seeing Allen's interview today, I am thoroughly impressed with him as a person. He is going for his Master's degree and to become a lawyer down the line. You gotta love that. He is quality no doubt. I give it up to Boomer and others on him, he is worth it. I really didnt know much about him but the only ? is the hip injury and I fully trust our medical staff in dolphinland over anybody else's in the entire league. Saban rules. Pretty soon, they will all fear Saban and Bill Belechick will become forgotten and all his 7 TE's.

i trust saban completly, but dont you think we could have gotten allen if we had waited and made a trade?
