The Dolphins have Antrel Rolle and Louis Delmas on a list of safety options should they have an injury at the position or if Reshad Jones should surprisingly extend his contract protest into the season. Even a person close to Jones conceded the Dolphins seemingly have no incentive to re-do a deal that pays Jones $7.2 million and $7.1 million the next two seasons.

Glad to see the team isin't planning on addressing his contract at this time.

I wish I could be optimistic about Delmas' health. Love the player.

Miami shouldn't even look at the deal until next offseason . . . it's pretty laughable to be honest.

i say bring delmas back any way. jones needs to put his big boy pants on and go to work. one of the top paid safties in the league. I think he is going at it the wrong way. negotiate incentives to add to current contract

I get a kick out of it, because so many factors work against Jones at present. 2017 looks like a strong S class, he's best suited as a SS/Rover, and Joseph wants to play 2-deep, and true SS is perhaps the least valuable position on D. As you've noted in other threads, the same tactic did not work out well for Kam Chancellor, and he's a superior player. In short, 2016 basically amounts to a try-out year for Jones in the new system. Maybe the hold out is a form of avoidance. If he struggles deep, which would be expected for Jones, his value goes down. In a perfect world, for Jones, he forces a trade to a team that uses the SS as the 8th man in the box. Not that Miami would or should entertain the idea.

Dolphins safety Reshad Jones has reportedly floated the possibility of sitting out the entire season without a new contract.

So perhaps the fact he’s willing to sit out a minicamp shouldn’t be a surprise.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Jones plans to skip minicamp as well. Unlike voluntary OTAs, the mandatory nature of minicamp means Jones will be subject to $76,580 in fines.

He's a really good Strong Safety. We also apparently don't want him to play Strong Safety. And he wants more money than he's worth.

This one's a no brainer.

Would love for Reshad to not continue holding out. Don't make an issue where there really isn't one currently.

It sucks to see him do this. He's going to regret it eventually and he is already the 9th highest paid safety is no worse than the best 5th best in the league. The amount of money he's looking for isn't worth missing the off season let alone games. He will get a new contract next year..... Come on man

I say offer Jones a new deal that extends his deal thru 2019 with a small raise and upfront money...it may lower his cost in the longrun.

He was awesome last year.

IAQ can man the SS position.

But honestly lets go Jones. Yes you're a good player but by no means are you worth top S money.

They would have to sign both. Neither guy would make it through season

We only need him 1 or 2 games (his average lately it seems), before Jones caves, if he actually misses pre-season. Once Jones starts to not get paid, and sees that Miami seriously will not negotiate with him, he will come back fast.
