Dolphins to remain a hybrid 3-4 defense

With the Miami Dolphins' recent coaching regime change, many expected the Dolphins to change from the base 3-4 defensive scheme utilized under previous defensive coordinator Mike Nolan to a 4-3 scheme. But, according to new DC Kevin Coyle, that's not where the Dolphins are headed.

We have pieces for either formation. When the time is right, we will run either of these.

It would be like trying to specify whether a team runs dime or nickel formations. Some teams may prefer one formation over the other, but at times, other formations can be used.

Hybrid just means that there will be a combination of defenses used and using players interchangeably.

I have said from the start that Coyle is a 3-4 guy. I think the PBP ran with a story about possibly changing to a 4-3 and it became fact for everyone.

Its not just formations..its about gap responsibilites too..I am expecting a mixture of both 1 gap and 2 gap techinques. 34 or 43 is really just about the lineup card.

Meh, Really it should not...We all know that we need an edge pass rusher...Call that person a DE or OLB they are a pass rusher...The value may change of the player taken....but the need is still pressing and should hopefully be addressed.

The decision to stay hybrid was announced last week. There was an article posted on the FH welcome page under latest news last week.
Like it was explained above, it is just a line up card. We have enough good players to make both defenses work.
We need to resign big Paul, find another edge rusher to replace JT, and look for upgrades at safety. and CB. The defense is basically set IMHO.

I think enduro has disappeared again. He is probably hanging out with Ireland sipping tea and cookies.
