Dolphins to revamp stadium, move seats closer to field

Isn't this old news? The team and league have acknowledged this problem for years, but with the Marlins gone they still don't have a physical or financial plan in place...

Probably shouldn't have brought it up then. And that's the reality of all cities where football isn't the only thing they have going on, and even they can't sellout when sucking (see Buffalo).

You're totally right.... there is nothing to do in New York City, or Chicago, or LA. The Mets, Giants, Cubs, and Clippers never have a problem selling out their stadiums and 3 of those clubs havent been consistently contenders for half a century.

It's possible to just talk about stuff without having a pissy "then maybe you shouldnt have brought it up" attitude.

NDIANAPOLIS — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made it clear Friday that the Dolphins shouldn't expect to host another Super Bowl until they make significant improvements to Sun Life Stadium.

There was no reference by Goodell to stadium improvements. That's a sloppy assumption. The person who asked the question failed to make a competent follow up, asking Goodell if he was familiar with Miami's plans and whether they would be sufficient to get back into the Super Bowl mix.

As I posted in another thread last night, Mike Dee's assertion that Miami needed to meet a minimum is preposterous. Goodell emphasized today that the bar is moving all the time:

“The fight to be at the center of that stage is growing more competitive each year.”

"They are competing against better and better stadiums across the country."

Besides, I like to pay attention to specific wording, which usually is carefully selected. Notice that Goodell did not say Miami would rejoin the rota to host future Super Bowls. His comment was singular, and very telling; "I do believe Miami will host ANOTHER Super Bowl."

Capitalization is mine.

In other words, as I posted last night, the renovations might be worth one pity Super Bowl, for giggles and old times sake. We'll get you off our back by granting one.

The renovations can be evaluated as a separate matter toward impact on the Dolphins and Canes. But local politicians and residents need to be made fully aware that Mike Dee's claim that the patchwork will put Miami back into frequent Super Bowl rotation is outright garbage. Whatever the tab, can it be justified to add one Super Bowl to the local economy?

I think the part about the seats being only 18 feet from the benches is just the writers opinion? They're going to move them closer, but I don't think that much closer.

About friggin time Dolphins....Holy Jeebus it didnt take a scientist to figure the fans were too far away. Now they need to work on that design to shade the spectators.

I know.

Do you mean NY that has a team in the Super Bowl...again? Or the Chicago that made it to the Conference Championship last year and the SB in 2006? And clearly you are referring to the LA that managed to lose TWO teams and had trouble selling out both. You think Miami fans are fickle, then you've clearly never dealt with an LA fan.

And you really can't compare baseball as those numbers are fudged even more than in the NFL. Here's one on the Cub's from last year:

And the Clippers?? You really have to be joking. They sell out now...because they're winning! I assure you that wasn't something they did before.

I don't know why it's so hard for people to understand. Despite the fact that times in Miami are extremely rough and they don't have the population others you mentioned, they still manage to pull sell outs despite having an absolute **** product on the field.

Win. It's really that simple.

Take a step back and calm down. Not referring to recently. Talking about a clippers team that for their entire existence have been the "baby brother NBA team of LA" and had no problem filling the seats while being a perennial loser.

If you want to just go rant about how a team is doing this year or in 2006 when im referring to a century's worth of fan support, then there is no point. As a city, Miami has a pathetic fan base. Compare it to any city you want, any sport you want, we are a fair weather fan base. It's not because all of the sudden their is so much more to do in the city that we are just too busy to show up to 8 games on a Sunday or even now that the Heat are the talk of the country and the seats dont get filled until midway through the 2nd quarter.

Will winning games help put people in the stands, abso-fu**ing-lutely. But come on, what are all the sports fans in miami really doing when they decide not to go to a game? Its a misnomer, and a naive one at that.

but but but....the cheeleaders risk injury!

this aint about the super bowl, this is about the landshark leap.

fair weathered fans in great weather, go figure.

Will this be done in time before opening day this year?

I think they should install FieldTurf so the field doesn't get all jacked by T'storms and what not and would make the field even hotter during SEP/OCT games.

They should make the seats aqua instead of orange.

And put the "Dolphins" cursive font back in the end zones!

Funny that goodell wants Miami to put up a roof (canopy) on their stadium to host a SB, when is the Giants stadium getting a roof?

 totally calm. I always am when I'm destroying bad arguments.

First, completely wrong regarding the Clippers. I grew up watching the Pacific division in Phoenix. They may sell out now that their competing (which makes sense, because they're, you know...winning), but when they were perennial cellar dwellers, that arena was completely empty. I actually went to a couple of games against the Suns when they played in the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena. Had no problem getting tickets. I think I saw more Suns fans than Clippers fans. Actually, I remember seeing a lot of Lakers fans, which was pretty funny.

And if you're considering the overall history of fans, I like how you conveniently ignore how Miami was during their heyday, particularly during their Orange Bowl days. Of course, the Phins were doing what during those days? Oh, that's right, winning.

Point being, outside of a couple of notable exceptions (such as GB), every city is made of "fairweather" fans, particularly when a team is perpetually mediocre (at best). The NFL is a business providing a product. If that product is ****, as it has been for over a decade, then why should people give up a ton of money 8 weeks a year to support that garbage?

What are they doing when they don't go to a game? Being extremely wise with their money. You can watch **** football at home for free.

While we're at it, can we please stop playing Marc Anthony and other crappy pop songs while we're on D? Pretty tough to imagine that Jennifer Lopez pumps our d line up for a key sack on 3rd down.
