The Miami Dolphins have scheduled a private workout with former Colorado State quarterback Garrett Grayson, a source told ESPN.com.

Grayson is considered in the second tier of quarterbacks behind projected first-round picks Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota. Grayson is expected to go anywhere between the second and fourth rounds.

The private workout is somewhat surprising because the Dolphins are set at quarterback. They have a young starter in Ryan Tannehill, 26, who has made 48 consecutive starts, and re-signed veteran backup Matt Moore. But Miami does not have a developmental third quarterback on the roster.

Grayson put up prolific numbers at Colorado State. Last year he threw for 4,006 yards, 32 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

According to ESPN.com's Jeff Legwold, Grayson completed 70-of-74 throws Monday during his pro day and ran a 4.61 in the 40-yard dash.

2nd round for Grayson? Hope it's a team picking in front of us...more talent dropping to the Dolphins.

Would be shocked if they drafted a QB in the first 4 rounds . . . but they do need to start developing another QB behind Ryan.

Wait...they are working out Nightwing?

Smoke screen? With no 3rd round pick and several holes to fill why would they draft a QB?
Ozzy rules!!

Well, if he last that long then why not.

Ozzy rules!!

Daniel Grayson? I thought he got killed trying to protect Emily / Amanda.

His competition wasn't all that great. At this point I think this is smoke.

I have seen about five games that Grayson played at CSU. The competition isn't great....they play teams like Wyoming, Air Force, Fresno State....lots of Mountain West conference teams. Grayson has good size, arm strength and mobility....but I would not take him until the fourth round at the earliest. He is probably the equivalent of a John Beck.

I love it. I said previously that this is someone I would look at taking in the later rounds....
