Interesting stat pro-football-reference does where AV: AV -- Approximate Value is our attempt to attach a single number to every player-season since 1950.

Here is a list of the top 20 players in the league from 2014 to give you an idea of the stats worth:

Dolphins top 10 (note- Suh would have been number one and Stills would have made the top 10 also with an AV of 8):

Whats the QB rankings for 2015 alone?

It's all about depth in the NFL.....I think the Seahawks and Pats had the most depth last year....looks like the Pats lost a lot with Revis, Browner and Wilfork no longer there.

If you want to look at specific rosters go to teams/starters and roster then click on AV to get a ranking for the team. The Jets one from 2014 is kind of funny, almost all defensive players in the top 10.

Thanks, this is the site I go to most of the times for analysis, they make it easy to export data to excel... But first time I come across this stat...

It seems like such a flawed system for a number of reasons, but the conclusions and rankings come off as pretty accurate.

Colledge or Satele over Albert? or Jones or Delmas?

Also that's 11 dolphins and 13 patriots. Not quite 10 lol

Your value is less if you don't play a full season. Plus they tend to value o-line quite high. Which, I guess is in-line with how GMs value them based on salaries.

More than ten in the lists because of ties.

Top 10 from 2013. Man what garbage. If I said it once I've said it a million times, it was borderline miraculous we were even in prime position for a playoff spot, let alone controlled our own path. Wheeler, Ellerbe, Clabo and Hartline were among the top players on the team. WHEELER!!

The 2012 team actually looked halfway respectable, unfortunately for us we had a raw rookie QB.

So what those stats say is that Tannehill has been our best player last 2 years?

Lost me at Matt Ryan tied with Aaron Rodgers. Ask any team which of those 2 QB's they would want.

Rodgers played 7 fewer games in that stretch than all of those guys at the top so the fact that he's still rated that high is pretty impressive.

If you extrapolate for those missed games Rodgers would be at 54, the highest in the league where he belongs.
