The Dolphins traded up to select Rutgers receiver Leonte Carroo with the No. 86 overall pick in the third round.Miami gave Minnesota its sixth-round pick this year, and a third and fourth round pick next year.
Carroo put up lofty numbers at Rutgers with 29 touchdowns in three seasons.
He had 39 catches for 809 yards (20.7 yards per catch) and 10 touchdowns in 2015.
“It was a best player available (pick),” Dolphins GM Chris Grier said. “He was a target player — 29 touchdowns in his career. He adds toughness and has speed for a big guy.”
Grier said Carroo will play special teams and compete for offensive snaps right away.
The Dolphins already had a solid trio of receivers in Jarvis Landry, DeVante Parker and Kenny Stills.
Stills contract is up after this season.
First-year coach Adam Gase is trying to build a potent offense.
“You’re adding another alpha personality to (the group),” Grier said. “It will be interesting.”
Carroo is confident, describing himself “as a much faster Anquan Boldin.”
“I’m very physical,” he said. “I rely on my speed a lot. I only had three career drops.”
The Dolphins were willing to give up next year’s third and fourth round picks because they will receive compensatory picks after losing free agents Lamar Miller and Olivier Vernon.

Underrated guy with a ton of upside! I'm excited about this one.

I like the player, but hate the price we gave up for him. I'm pretty sure Howard and Carroo could have been had without the trades.

He is absolutely fantastic, and severely underrated but phew that's a lot to give up. I'm a little shocked at how much offense we are going after.

What are we doing with the trade ups! lol are these guys serious

Like him as a player, but.... amazed by the cost and how he fits on this team...

Wow we are just giving away picks like candy. Not thrilled.

I love play makers so I can't complain about picks when this guy is making plays on the field.

Dudes do some research and YouTube this cats highlights. He is a Jarvis Landry clone. I swear this dude is the real deal. Sexy pick by fins.

The cost is fair for a 3rd in this draft, but the idea of doing that in general is dumb. When you trade future considerations you always have to give up significantly more value. But I HATE mortgaging the future for less value now. You should do the opposite if you want to BUILD a franchise. This is a shortcut that hurts us down the road.

Leonte Carroo is more well-rounded than Jarvis Landry. I view Carroo as someone who is equally good as a slot receiver as an outside WR.

Our starters are more specialized. Stills & Parker are better as outside WRs. Landry is better as a slot receiver. In his rookie year, Carroo will likely be our universal backup, able to step into any position (X/Z/slot) depending on who goes down with injury.

I wonder if Landry or Stills gets traded.............................
This makes no sense to give up all those pics up for what you have on your roster.
