The Miami Dolphins have discussed moving Dion Jordan to linebacker full-time, making him Philip Wheeler's replacement as the team's starting strong side linebacker, but no decision has been made yet.

“That’s one [decision] we’re going to keep talking through," Dolphins vice president Mike Tannenbaum said at the NFL's Owner's Meetings when discussing Jordan, the team's 2013 first-round pick.
Jordan has been used as a hybrid pass rusher for the past two seasons, typically coming on the field as a linebacker in the speed package on passing downs. He's contributed 46 tackles and three sacks in the 26 NFL games he's played.

But his first start came last season in the seasonn finale as Wheeler's replacement at strong side linebacker. Many insiders believe Jordan's NFL career could flourish if he were moved to linebacker full-time, returning to the position he played in the University of Oregon's 3-4 defense.
"Obviously he’s a great pressure player in the front seven, a great athlete. We all see the play last year where he’s running 60 yards down-field covering [Lions receiver] Calvin Johnson. There aren’t many people on the planet that can do those things," Tannenbaum continued. "He’s a young athletic guy with great upside and we’ll see how that plays out.”
Jordan, who is 6-foot-6, 275 pounds, is not opposed to a position switch, but admitted at the end of the 2014 season that he views himself as a NFL pass rusher.

BREAKING NEWS: Water is wet.

"The Miami Dolphins have discussed moving Dion Jordan to linebacker full-time, making him Philip Wheeler's replacement as the team's starting strong side linebacker..."

Jesus, Ya think? It's taken them three years to figure this out? A blind guy could see it from the cheap seats. Get Jordan back down to 260 lbs or so and let him pound on Gronk for 60 minutes twice a year. Money well spent.

Lets go Jordan time to shine. They called you a freak but needed some time developing youve had your time not you gotta let that freak out

Injuries, PEDs...Dion needs a full offseason to actually become SOMETHING. He has been dropping onto our roster the middle of the season and when you do that playing time is already spread out. Big big year for him.

There is alot of blaming the coaches about Jordan , but the guy obviously had a drug problem and was injured. If he has truly gotten his act together, hopefully his production will show it this year.

Big year for our whole team, and as much as people hate to admit it, Jeff Ireland built the foundation of this very talented young roster. Lots of potential, all starts with R.T.

one thing is clear, he's getting lost in the trenches playing DE. by process of elimination, as our #3 OVERALL PICK, he should be playing significant snaps at olb.

if he can not make an impact there, ship him off to a team with a better scheme fit.

it's not ****ing rocket science.

Much as I l love the Dolphins, we are getting a front row seat to a train wreck of gargantuan proportions.

We will get to see it play out SLOWLY over the next two-three years.

How many teams in the NFL have VPs that comment on players more than GMs?

I think what will happen is Philbin will be fired after this season,

no matter how much he improves, if the Dolphins do not win a playoff game he will be fired by t-bomb and Ross.

THEN, WHO will want to have to add to their resume the title of half-way Head Coach and half-way GM when they start to interview to replace Hickey and Philbin?

It cannot work like this, unless the goal is to hire a new coach and GM every 2-3 years.

I hate to agree but I'm with you.

We're supposedly in a youth movement which makes no sense for a coach in a must win situation. The peculiar thing is they are getting guys who mostly fit Lazor's offense, who are young, but unlikely to gel with the QB and pickup the offense in year one. The move, IMO, seems to indicate they're ready to move on from Philbin but want to retain Lazor. We've also been non-committal about defense. We signed Suh but he's scheme diverse. He can play 4-3 or 3-4. We've not looked at linebacker in free agency (not many available though), we signed a CB from Pitt that ran a 3-4...Tannenbaum is talking about moving Jordan to linebacker (probably getting some resistance from the coaching staff)...I'm getting the feeling Tannenbaum wants to get more 3-4 personnel on defense in anticipation of hiring a new coach next year that's a 3-4 coach and keeping Lazor onboard (if he can).

Like I've been saying...this thing has Eric Mangini written all over it. And despite what Hayden says...Mangini sucks.

they gonna not get the same bang for their buck from suh if they make him a 5 tech...

This sounds like the ol'...

Didn't Tannenbaum draft Quinton Coples to be a 5 technique? I'm not saying moving Suh to DE in the 3-4 is going to be as effective but I wouldn't put it past Tannenbaum to think that way.
