Dolphins undrafted free agents thread

is sinkfield the kid that got shut down by xavier rhodes in the bowl game??? if so he didn't show me much...very raw...struggles to get off the los and into his routes...practice squad maybe

kovacs looks to me like a guy that would play specials primarily if he made the team...smart kid but i'm not sure i see 53 man roster stuff there...

Definitely true...he is very raw..just offers a bit more athleticism than Bumphis. But I could definitely see Bumphis making the 53 IF they want a true slot. But maybe they feel comfortable with Matthews in there...I don't know. You would think they wouldn't be expecting a UDFA to contribute significantly or they would have just drafted the kid.

well they didn't draft davon bess...and they probably knew bumphis would be on the street given his lack of long speed and acceleration like bess...but that kids pro ready and he understands coverage...fits us very well...tough...very good hands...quicker than fast

Miami also signed Brandon Ogletree from BYU has also signed making quite a large contingent from those who played college ball here in Utah.

Of the UDFA, I'm really intrigued by Bumphis, Clay, & Marshall.

Curious; isn't Sinkfield the one who had 40 time similar to Chris Johnson??

Ogletree is a stud lb. super hard worker and always seems to be around the ball. A little bit undersized but I hope he succeeds

Any of these LBs Mike backers? Jenkins seems like an OLB all the way to me which would spell the end for Trusnick. But we really don't have anyone to back up at the Mike besides Spitler...who is slowwww which seems to be going against what they want to do.

i don't see a mike other than ellerbe...and jenkins would be a major upgrade to trusnick on passing downs in space and coverage certain packages...the ones where when trusnick was on the field it was a disaster...spitler has no instincts so him at the mike is auto failure...maybe they'd roll misi there??? who's just learning lb

Here is the list of all the UDFAs so far

Terrell Sinkfield, WR, Northern Iowa
Michael Clay, LB, Oregon
Brandon Ogletree, LB, BYU
Chris Burnette, DT, Old Dominion
Chris Barker, OG, Nevada
Sam Brenner, OG, Utah

Exactly Spitler is garbage. Misi would be the best fit there for sure. But I still think he starts at SOLB so Im not sure...he could learn both positions I guess he just wouldn't get many reps at Mike.

chris barker of nevada had a damn good combine workout..looked like an athlete...good knee bend good movement skills...but i didn't see enough of his tape to make a real call...definitely looked like a guard to me...good athlete here

i'm glad he's on the list...

folks...there's your slot wr...chad bumphis...got top end speed and burst just like davon bess...don't be surprised if he makes the roster...kid can play...i liked bumphis and he's underrated but when i reviewed his work i saw the same skill set davon bess offered us...just not very fast or explosive...

if they want a true slot chad bumphis is your guy...

Yeah he's basically a clone. It's almost uncanny. Same size, virtually identical workout numbers. They even slow play their routes and burst in a similar way.

I think Bumphis is a slightly less explosive mover but with slightly better top end speed than Bess. His routes aren't as good as Bess', though. He needs work coming back to the quarterback and not letting his out routes drift upfield. But I think if you're just looking to replace Bess on the cheap, he's as good as you'll do. He's determined and a hard worker from every report I've seen, too.

The UDFA WR who intrigues me thus far is Jasper Collins. Draftniks were onto him but I didn't watch him at all pre draft. He's more straightlineish than Bumphis/Bess but has more big play potential from the slot. He's crisp and I like his hands. The step up in competition from Mount Union is enormous but Pierre Garcon and Cecil Shorts have already done it, so that shouldn't be in and of itself an eliminating factor. Collins is closer to Shorts as an athlete than Garcon, though. He had a reputation as a clutch player for the Purple Raiders, which I like. If a guy is going to be fazed by a big moment in Div III how's he going to make plays in the NFL?

it's probably ellerbe at mike, misi at strong, and wheeler at weak...thats how i would do it...and i'd maybe give vernon some reps in practice at lb to see about adding him as a solb/de...jenkins probably backs up the weakside and specials...kaddu is history spitler is probably the last guy on or off if they keep 5 and trusnick is gone...depth at mike backer is something needed for the future for sure

Kaddu has been told to gain weight to be a pass rush specialist.

The guy I'm interested to see where he lines up is Vernon. They might be grooming him as Misi's replacement at SOLB.

if i'm miami i look to other rosters cuts and eyeball spitler as the guy i want to upgrade at mike as the 5th lb on the 53...his roster spot should be dicey to say the least...he's got no future starter potential barring a disaster anyways...get someone with some damn instincts for depth...a cagey vet if need be...

lbs without instincts never add up to anything but waste of time
