With Al Groh headed to Georgia Tech, Keith Butler declining the Dolphins’ offer and remaining in Pittsburgh, Mike Zimmer signing an extension Cincinnati and Romeo Crennel in Kansas City, the Dolphins have moved to Plan B.

The most obvious move would be an in-house promotion for Todd Bowles, the team’s secondary coach and assistant head coach.
Bowles, 46, interviewed for the Rams and Lions head coaching openings last winter, played safety for eight NFL seasons and has been with Sparano since 2005 in Dallas.

Bowles, however, isn’t going to excite many outside the organization because last season’s pass defense cost the Dolphins week after week. Miami 24th-ranked pass D finished 15th in the AFC in yards per pass play (13.3), but Bowles also had to work with two rookie cornerbacks and a free safety who is really a strong safety.

U beat me to it =[. But ya, I highly doubt the phins go into the senior bowl practices without a DC.

That doesnt make sense? Would the NFL force them to give up the Senior Bowl to get someone else? How would they find someone on such short notice?

If not, I highly doubt the Dolphins will just give up the Senior Bowl because of the DC situation. They could just have someone fill in temporarily..

Its really quite puzzling why Tony and Co. has yet to name a coordinator. I for some reason think that they have their entire staff in place but just have decided to wait until the end of this week to let it out to the media. They dont just accept a Senior Bowl Coaching stint without having the pieces in place.

They are going to hire someone this week, or just promote Bowles. I think they have a few guys in mind outside the organization and will act fast this week to fill out the staff. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear an announcement later today or tomorrow.

Nub, I generally agree with most everything that you say on this board but I'll have to disagree this time. I think they have someone specific in mind for the job that is still involved in the playoffs. They will go into the Senior Bowl with their current staff and have Bowles act as DC. The Trinity is too deliberate to just take whomever is available for a game that ultimately means very little. They will wait and hire the person they are targeting. I also do not buy into the BS that they offered Butler, Groh, or Crennel the job as no confirmation has been given, to my knowledge, from anyone other than some reporters speculating. The candidates just said it didn't work out. I think they've had someone in mind all along and will move when he is available. With that being said, I have no idea who that could be so you may be able to help me out there.

I think that for what ever the reason, they're waiting for their guy. They know who it is, and they'll act when the time is right.

I tend to agree with you and while many people seem to think Sutton is the guy I actually think Dennis Thurman is the guy. It's been reported the Trifecta likes the attacking style of the Jets, Ravens and Steelers. Well Sutton has only worked one year under Ryan, where Thurman has been with him since 2002.

If they are indeed waiting for someone from the Jets I think my money would go on Thurman and not Sutton.

Sparano can call defensive plays until we find someone, hell, even Bowles can. I don't see them passing this opportunity up.
