As the Miami Dolphins struggle to regain relevance in South Florida, they’re also struggling to get paid by season ticket holders who have stiffed them.

Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, in an item that ponders the status of a franchise that seems to be dog paddling at best, reports that the team has hired an outside company to obtain payment from “a couple of hundred” season ticket holders.

Adam Grossman, the Dolphins’ V.P. of public affairs, said that the outside company isn’t a collection agency. Even though it’s an agency that is attempting to collect money owed to the Dolphins.

“We enlisted the services of a company that has an accounts receivable recovery module,” Grossman told Cole. “This is not a collections service. They are a third party that is helping us contact account holders that we [haven’t] been able to reach over the past six months, even though they have received – on average – 8 to 10 communications (letters, e-mails, personal phone calls, video blasts, invitations to participate in private, special events, etc).”

So it’s not a collection agency. It’s a company that does several things. Including the collection of debts.

It’s not the first time a team has tried to force its customers to make good on their commitments; Cole points out that the Redskins and Patriots have done similar things. But it’s arguably not an ideal time for the Dolphins to be getting attention for something like this. The team responded to a dreadful 1-15 season in 2007 with an unexpected division title in 2008, which served only to create unreasonable expectations in 2009 and 2010.

And now the team with an owner who wanted Jim Harbaugh but settled for Tony Sparano and a coach who wanted Kyle Orton but settled for Chad Henne has a fan base that wants the Miami Heat but due to a lockout that would wipe out the NBA season may have to settle for the Dolphins.

They should try not putting out a ****ty product. That could help you sell some tickets.

****ty product?

teams with less sell out every game...

so a ****ty product consists of a top 5 defense? a top 5 wr and one of the fastest rbi's?

hopefully henne will be good

whos the top 5 WR on Miami? I don't see one

I really dislike Sun Life. It's in the middle of nowhere, parking is a nightmare, the stadium needs a serious upgrade, and most people down here can't afford to go. If the team is losing, there's no point in wasting money we don't have. I would go to every home game if I could.

If you acquire season tickets, you essentially sign a contract that says you'll pay for them after you receive them. If you can't pay for them, sell them on Ebay or return them. I don't blame the Fins for this.

As for the stadium, I'd really like for Stephen Ross to save his money on serious investments to JRS beyond basic upkeep and start saving the cash to build a state-of-the-art football complex complete with an over-the-water stadium around the South Beach area. You'd have the Super Bowl committee clamoring to come to Miami as often as possible.

Um, if you have season tickets, shouldn't you have to pay for them? Another black eye for the fan base in just one week. After the classless way the fans acted on Monday, now we find out season ticket holders are not paying for their tickets. Come on people, get your act together.

You're 18, you can't possibly be expected to pay for every game.

When they found out Henne and Moore are competing for a starting spot they probably jumped off a bridge.

Well I canceled my season tickets this year after three years. Getting a letter from Ross (only two months after the Harbaugh fiasco) telling me to give him money after one week of the lockout really pissed me off.

Well I was just speaking for people in general. It's tough to see Dolphin games for my parents or anyone else I know that wants to see the Fins play.

I find it funny how these ex-turd sportswriters from South Florida,Marvez and fatass Cole, have nothing to write about,to fill the void of writers block, they always come up with a punching bag story about the Dolphins? You have to wonder who pissed both of these guys off within the organization? I am so sick of these guys!
