According to Michael Silver of SI.com, "In some players' eyes, this (N.R. picking Ginn) wasn't merely a reach -- it was proof that NFL coaches and general managers should be subject to the same drug-testing procedures as the athletes."

Wow! If this is true there may be problems in the locker room before we even start playing.
:err:

P.S., on the other hand, Andrew Perloff on his SI.com blog argues in favor of Ginn.

it wasnt a reach if we took Quinn the Teaxns would have taken Ginn Right after us

"Needing a young quarterback for the future, you'd think picking Quinn would've been a no-brainer," Holliday says. "I mean, the setup was perfect. It's hard enough to get the fans (in South Florida) to come to the games, and now you piss them off? But hey, they must have a plan."

That a boy Vonnie :sidelol:

Wow, Vonnie really slammed the pick.

"With the ninth pick they took a guy who is basically a kick returner -- a hurt kick returner. Here were are in June, and he hasn't been in camp yet. Maybe he'll come in eventually and become a better route-runner and make some plays. But I couldn't believe it then, and I can't believe it now."

Because the Texans would have taken Ginn at 10 does not mean that picking Ginn at 9 was still not a reach. Had the Texans taken Ginn at 10 then the Texans would have been the team taking a reach. Keep in mind this is the same team that passed on Reggie Bush, Vince Young, and Matt Lienhart to take Williams last year.

Vonnie Holliday tell it: "With the ninth pick they took a guy who is basically a kick returner -- a hurt kick returner. Here were are in June, and he hasn't been in camp yet. Geez Vonnie isn't making any friends in the F.O. with such harsh comments.

In the end, players are no different than fans in assessing the talent of players coming out of college. They don't do any scouting and they feed off the same media opinions we do. They know nothing of scouting future NFL talent just because they are NFL talent. I understand their reaction as ours was similar but their nor our reactions to it make the draft picks good or bad decisions in the end.

One thing for sure though, if Ginn's foot IS a lingering problem Cam and Mueller will be burned at the stake.

Taylor and Holliday need to keep their mouths shut. There is absolutely no reason for them to comment on the selection of Ginn. This will only cause problems in the locker room. If they have a problem with the selection, they should take it up with Cam and Randy, and keep their opinions out of the media.

Besides... the first time Ginn runs past them in practice, they'll quickly back-peddle on their statements.

Then the Redskins, Rams and 49ers are also guilty of being anxious to "reach" and take Ted Ginn Jr. They were on him like white on rice. If the LaRon Landry were off the board, the Redskins were ready to take Ted Ginn Jr. The Texans were ready to take him at #10. If Patrick Willis were off the board, the 49ers' next guy was Ted Ginn Jr. Scott Linehan was all over Ted Ginn Jr., but reportedly realized he would never get him at #13 and so he traded for Dante Hall.

That's 5 teams between #6 and #13 that all coveted Ginn among their top choices at their respective picks.

Yeah, a real reach.

Zach Thomas had the best quote:

"You don't know about drafts till they play out, anyway," Thomas says. "Hell, there were 20 teams that passed on Brady Quinn -- even his own team (the Browns, who picked him 22nd overall after bypassing him at No. 3) passed on him -- and we're the bad ones?"

true but i still dont think it was a reach i think that ginn could and will have a big inpact on the dolphins this year

whats funny is that Quinn could have been had in the 20s... it obviously would have been a reach to take him at 9... yet they call the Ginn pick a reach
:err:

i like what zach said. 20 other teams did pass on quinn, including the browns & vikings, who both have qb issues. would the browns have looked like creme de la creme if they hadn't gotten quinn?

I've been just wondering where SI got all of the quotes from Thomas, Taylor and Holliday. Did he interview them? Did they come from some other interviews? Does anyone know?
