The Dolphins have a chance to have a great nickname this year. Pat White's offense has been dubbed the "WildPat," a take-off of the "Wildcat." It's perfect. It also brings to the surface other Dolphins nicknames to vote on (at the end) which is greatest.
So many good ones didn't make the list: Tony Paige (the Total Package - T.P., get it?; Don "The Human Bowling Ball" Nottingham (wrongly put Norm Bulaich earlier) ; Regan "Juggernaut" Mauia. And reader "scott" added: "Chicken" to Larry Little for his penchant to eat (I know he added "Chicken Little," which may be right and is a good touch, but I've only heard people call him, "Chicken.") Keep the entries coming.
Here's the Top 10 list:
1. The No-Name Defense. Who were these guys? That was the question a Sports Illustrated writer asked before the 1971 Super Bowl against Dallas and the Dolphins defense embraced into a nickname.
2. Zonk. Short, sweet and encapsulated the game of Larry Csonka. Also became the name of coach Don Shula's dog.
3. Killer B's. Let's see. Baumhower. Betters. Brudzinski. Bokamper. Bowser. Blackwood. Barnett. The defense held nine opponents to 14 points of less on the road to the Super Bowl in 1982. Also got a poster.
4. Marks Brothers. Mark Duper and Mark Clayton, linked forever.
5. J-Peezy. Joey Porter.
