The Dolphins have a chance to have a great nickname this year. Pat White's offense has been dubbed the "WildPat," a take-off of the "Wildcat." It's perfect. It also brings to the surface other Dolphins nicknames to vote on (at the end) which is greatest.

So many good ones didn't make the list: Tony Paige (the Total Package - T.P., get it?; Don "The Human Bowling Ball" Nottingham (wrongly put Norm Bulaich earlier) ; Regan "Juggernaut" Mauia. And reader "scott" added: "Chicken" to Larry Little for his penchant to eat (I know he added "Chicken Little," which may be right and is a good touch, but I've only heard people call him, "Chicken.") Keep the entries coming.

Here's the Top 10 list:
1. The No-Name Defense. Who were these guys? That was the question a Sports Illustrated writer asked before the 1971 Super Bowl against Dallas and the Dolphins defense embraced into a nickname.
2. Zonk. Short, sweet and encapsulated the game of Larry Csonka. Also became the name of coach Don Shula's dog.
3. Killer B's. Let's see. Baumhower. Betters. Brudzinski. Bokamper. Bowser. Blackwood. Barnett. The defense held nine opponents to 14 points of less on the road to the Super Bowl in 1982. Also got a poster.
4. Marks Brothers. Mark Duper and Mark Clayton, linked forever.
5. J-Peezy. Joey Porter.

Jim "Crash" Jensen beats the Hell out of "J-Peezy"....whatever that means

I happen to love Tony Paige. I've had huge man love for him ever since he caved in Jr Seau's knees like he was a punk. I have never heard him refered to as "The Total Package." Not once. Not ever. I could be wrong, but, I think that's someone making things up.

"Crash" is the single best nickname a Dolphin player has ever had, IMO. It is just as descriptive of a play style Dan "The Man" , but, more colorful.

I like "Zonk." Reminds me of the word bubbles used in the fight scenes of the old Batman T.V. series.

No doubt about it, "Crash" was the best nickname ever. A QB, WR, RB, and ST all in one package.

And, yes, Tony was nicknamed "Total Package". Because he could do all of the things required of a Fullback (block, catch, run) equally well. Also helped that his initials were T.P.

Mike "Captain Crunch" Kolen Line backer in the 70's on the Championship/undefeated teams. He would lay some wood!

+2

I'm a huge Csonka fan, so I'd love to put one in for the Zonk, but let's face it, "Crash" Jensen is better. :hi5:
