Not sure this has already been posted. This is from ESPN'S Mel Kiper...

Question: The New England Patriots forfeited their first round draft choice (No. 31 overall). So the Miami Dolphins will pick two of the first 32 players -- No. 1 overall and the first pick in the second round. If the Dolphins draft Matt Ryan first overall, do they automatically look to a defensive lineman with the first pick in the second round?
Kiper: First, let's look at the first pick of the second round since 2001:

2007: DT Alan Branch, Arizona Cardinals
2006: LB DeMeco Ryans, Houston Texans
2005: G/C David Baas, San Francisco 49ers
2004: LB Karlos Dansby, Arizona Cardinals
2003: OG Eric Steinbach, Cincinnati Bengals
2002: WR Jabar Gaffney, Houston Texans
2001: QB Drew Brees, San Diego Chargers
Each team has a draft board with its list of top players. In the second round -- especially with the 32nd overall pick -- the Dolphins should be able to get a player who they think has a first-round grade. Is Miami going to get one of the top defensive linemen? Probably not, but the Dolphins have a lot of need areas and they can select a very good cornerback, linebacker (Keith Rivers, Dan Connor) or offensive lineman (Chilo Rachal) with the first pick in the second round.

Thanks for the post, how awesome would it be to draft a guy like Steinbach in the 2nd round!!

i hadnt read that before. thanks. but mel kiper thinks we're taking matt ryan? wow. i havent read that anywhere either. i think hes wrong. we wont take a qb with that pick(#1). imo.

kiper has got to b kidding, this really makes no sence

Essentially that pick is a first rounder since the Pats lost their own 1st round pick. Should be a great pick. There are some players who will probably slide due to teams drafting for immediate needs. Kind of ironic isn't it, the Pats lose their 1st round pick and the Dolphins get that 1st round pick?

I don't think Kiper was saying that the Dolphins were drafting or thinking about drafting Matt Ryan. I think it was a question that was asked to him regarding Miami possibly picking Ryan and their second round pick. I could be wrong but thats the way it appears to me?

I made a joke when the Pats were originally fined for spygate that they should not only have to give the first rounder up, but they should have to hand it over to a team in their division.

If Parcells manages to get us out of that #1 overall slot then he will have managed the greatest personnel move for this team since Don Shula and Joe Robbie chose to go with drafting Bob Griese after first interviewing Steve Spurrier.

That said, I just don't see it happening, but if Miami manages to grab, for instance, Dallas' two first rounders, we'd be in a position to address 3 critical positions in a short window of opportunity, and would become a draft that one could easily point to down the road as the turning point towards becomming relevant again.

Better value at 32 than at 33?? :D :D

Mel has been so much of BS . I Think mayock does a good job and having played in nfl better in judgement .Mel has been all over the place and his evaluation are crap in defence in most cases.

Because of the cheats, basicly the Fins' 1st picks in Rounds 2-4 are moved up to the equivalent of the last pick of the previous round. It would be really sweet if something came from the Rams walkthrough taping, and they lost their other 1st rounder....

now i understand the whole thing about getting great value picks because of the whole pats stuff but with that said are these players enttitle to get paid as a previous rounder let me explain if we pick X person on the 2nd round which technically is #32 is that individual entitled to a first rounder contract? which means we would pay big money for two first rounders

the only thing i don't like about mayock here lately is he is always wanting guys to be something else in the nfl..albert the gaurd(top 20 lineman/#1 interior?) is all of a sudden a dominate lt in the nfl and long is a better rt and if he were our coach he would have brandon fields starting at qb..all im saying is let them play the position they have been playing for years unless it is a no brainer.
