Dolphins Willing To Make Fisher Executive Vice President & Pay Him More Than 8 Mil

Was it the philosophy that killed us or the guys we hired?

Because I don't care how our front office was structured, I don't think we weren't going to win anything with Cameron and Mueller or Wanny and Spielman. And Sparano didn't have any personnel power until this year, after the Harbaugh fiasco forced Ross to throw him a bone.

I think the bottom line is that this rumored structure will be fine -- if it turns out that Ireland is the right guy for his job and Fisher is the right guy for his. What really concerns me here is that I'm not very confident about either of those hypotheses.

Yeah but that's pretty much it. And all belichick has done since pioli left is build one of the worst defenses in the league while not winning a playoff game in years. I look at Pitt, Baltimore, green bay, ny giants and new Orleans. All franchises that have won superbowls recently and are model franchises. Their personnel people pick personnel and the coach coaches. For every Philly ill give you a bunch where it didn't work. Notably here. Wanny overriding spiel man and taking Moore and fletcher over Brees and boldin. I don't have to mention the mistakes Saban made....ahem Aaron Rogers. Or what an awful personnel guy parcells is. Where is their any shred of evidence that fisher knows what he's doing as a personnel expert. You mention the eagles and I show at least five more successful franchises that don't give the coach that power. You mention the eagles and show you three times on this very team where that philosophy killed us

im not accusint anyone specifically here, but i feel like whats going on among dolphins fans right now is just pure psychology. ppl are becoming comfortable with anything fisher gets b/c they have become fixated on getting him in here. if he goes elsewhere, their state of mind will change quickly. MOST ppl were not really this high on fisher before the courtship started. but b/c hes emerged as "our candidate" there is an infatuation with him that is greatly exaggerated.

in my opinion, the rams are being much smarter than Ross, and i understand ppl are saying that "the longer he waits the better for the dolphins" i totally disagree at this point.

the dolphins are offering a monster deal and are bent over for fisher. if he wanted the dolphins it would be a done deal. But, this waiting shows he is milking the dolphins offer and letting it be known that he "is leaning that way" to leverage the rams and get more money.

honestly, if ross had any balls or manhood he'd seriously consider his "2nd" option, bring him in for a second interview and tell ross's agent. look u have til this time or im going with so and so.

i know most ppl on here seem to worship money and being a punk and spending it, but its not about your net worth, its about self-respect. enough already of this circus. Jeff Fisher is not Bill Cowher.

It's the philosophy. How many times over the last 10 years can you point to in the nfl and show that philosophy being successful. You might have an anomoly here and there but they didn't win any superbowls. It isn't a coincidence that our best draft since parcells got here is the one in which he nothing to do with. What evidence do you have that the rumored structure will be fine. Again, I can point to a myriad of times it has failed but how many times can you show it working.

And you mention it didn't matter how our front office was structured. Well I disagree. If speilman was allowed to pick brees and boldin this decade would of been very different.

It happens all the time. Go look at gang green. A couple of weeks ago they were unanimous in how bad a coach sparano is. Now they are trying to rationalize to themselves how he can be a success. They have been doing it with Sanchez since the beginning. People will always try to justify to themselves why the current state of progress is the correct one. If it detours than they will just as quickly rationalize why it was for the best

completely agree. this is exactly what im saying. I think Ross and the fan base has over-rationalized fisher along with the south florida media to the point that making him one of the most powerful/highest paid coaches in the NFL is a smart move at this point.

For the record, I'm not arguing that we should hire Fisher, because I honestly don't think that we should. Just that I don't think this rumored offer that was made to him is anything to get up in arms about.

Well, for one it's my understanding that Belichick had that power over Pioli when he was there. That was why when Pioli was hired in Kansas City, a few people were skeptical and suggested that Belichick was really the brains behind the operation.

Bill Cowher won a power struggle within the Steelers organization to get Tom Donahoe pushed out so he could have more say in personnel decisions, did he not? Kevin Colbert holds the general manager title, but he and Cowher were tight. He would not have drafted a guy Cowher was adamant against.

I also think it's worth pointing out that Mike McCarthy was part of the decision to move on from Brett Favre in Green Bay. So yes, some recent SB winners have given their coaches a say in personnel decisions. I don't see any evidence that the only way to run a football team is to have the personnel department and coaching staff operate in isolation from one another.

Is this where I trash the reporter and claim the media hates the Dolphins?

If the Rams owner isn't out bidding us he is smart! Hire Chud he develops Bradford use your second overall pick for Blackmon.

They also need Oline help badly too...The OT from USC would be perfect for them as well...
