Dolphins Win

I was reading a summary by NFL.com and it said the Falcons easily moved the ball on the Dolphins before Atlanta's backups allowed Miami to get back in the game and win it. Screw that. A Win is a win.

This is the first preseason game, Miami did not game plan on either side of the ball, three of the offense's stars(Long, Marshall, Bush) didn't play and Matt Ryan led a touchdown drive against our backup defense. Henne struggled tonight, but his first interception was definitely not his fault as Fasano let the ball bounce off his chest into the defenders arm. The interior line is still a work in progress, but nothing to be concerned about at this point with a new offensive scheme and a rookie center.

The Dolphins did win, but I am not going to use that as an argument. I have said all along that preseason results do not matter and even the play from the starters in the first game is not a determining factor of what is to come. I am happy the Dolphins won, they smoked the Falcons from the second quarter on, but I don't feel any better or worse about this team than I did earlier today. I still maintain this is likely a playoff team that will win between 9 and 10 games. Henne throwing two picks in the first quarter of the first preseason game after a lockout is no cause for concern. Just like Henne connecting on a bomb with Hartline for a touchdown is no cause for over excitement. I also would not be too concerned with the starting defense. They return 10 starters from the 6th best defense in the league, and replaced the 11th with an upgrade. We know what they can do, so lets not flip out over one quarter in the first preseason game. This defense is solid.

I did think Matt Moore played well, but again, first preseason game and he was going up against backups. Though I wouldn't mind seeing what he can do against a first team offense sometime during the preseason.

A couple of guys that got my attention were Jimmy Wilson, Clyde Gates and Phillip Livas. Again, still just a preseason game, but these three rookies definitely turned some heads tonight, especially Livas. We have to see if Livas can continue during the preseason, but I think there may just be a chance they keep 6 WR so Livas can be the returner. He just seemed to be a natural with the ball in his hands. No real dancing or thinking, he just hit the holes and picked up yards. His touchdown return was pretty special.

Before anyone gets too excited or too upset, please just remember this is the first preseason game. The best news of the night is that the Dolphins came out of thise game with no apparent major injuries.

To be fair, Henne's lone TD came against ATL backups? Just sayin.
 
A win is a win, even preseason. Our bench is not bad. We have 2nd stringers who are pretty good. Good news. Bad news is Henne did nothing to calm fears that we actually have no starter. It is what it is. This may be a sign to come when it all starts for real. That is squeaking out wins IN SPITE OF THE QB POSITION! Not even trying to be negative. Just reality. GO FINS!!!
 
Yeah pretty impressive night. I watched bits and pieces on the NFL Network, until they switched to an Arena Football game, wtf....?

I looked on line for a stream and no luck...

What turned the game around....?

Did you even watch the game? Yes we won but not until our back ups played their back ups. If it was starters against starters all game, it would not of been pretty for the final score. Their starting offense destroyed our Defense and their starting Defense made our Offense look like JV team. O-Line could not block, TE could not catch, RB did not have time to run, QB play was shakey.

I'm glad you are so positive but act like your smarter than that. I want nothing more than to see us do good, but we didn't. I call it like I see it.

First preseason game with no game planning. Looks like the Falcons game planned, we were outmatched out of the gates do to that fact. No reason to flip out over this game.
 
nobody got hurt right? this is key to me. This game was mailed in minus backups. OL apparently stunk it up. Atlanta the home team and the went all out to show something. we mailed it in.

I'm not flipping out. Dont get mad about the truth. Plan or no plan our starters SUCKED. There is no other way around that. You can come up with excuses for it but it is what it is.

I would think that without planning the O-Line could get a little push, maybe?

Yeah, it wasn't a good outing at all.

But I do agree it's still the first preseason game. We have time to correct things.
 
Did any of the new free agents like Burnett or Colombo play?

Also, how did Pouncey and Thomas look?

I am not making excuses, I have said this every year during the preseason. It is not an indication of the upcoming season, especially the first preseason game. It is even less of an indication since there was no offseason program. The offensive line was missing Long at LT, and we have a rookie center playing in his first NFL game. On top of that, a new starter at RG and RT, so it is going to take time to gel. That is exactly what the preseason is for.
 
Yes it was only the first game and yes there is time to improve. My main concern is the O-Line. Tony will keep messing with it the whole season and never let anybody settle in. 4 years later for a Offensive line coach and that may be the biggest concern on the team, even more than QB.
