Dolphins wins on Nationally Televised Games...

Why..why do we seem to always play terribly on nationally televised games, especially Sunday night and MNF (if you can even remember the last time we were on)?

Anybody have any theories?
When was the last time we won on TV when no other games were on? Halloween 2012, Wake's sack in OT against the Bengals? I honestly can't remember. This is what scares me about Saturday.

I don't have any theories about why they don't play well, but.....they did win two primetime games in 2014. TNF at home against the Bills (first all-aqua game in the current uniform style) and MNF on the road against the Jets (ugly, low-scoring game where the Jets ran up and down the field but couldn't cash in much in the red zone, and the Dolphins won with a late field goal).

It's been awhile since we were a good team, be it Thursday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday.

We had one primetime game earlier this season and we got #63ed.

That will never happen again.

I'm hoping it's not the case down the road, but I feel like Tannehill generally struggles in big games like that. Wasn't that a knock of his coming out of college? Let's hope with Gase at the helm, that won't be an issue anymore!

Don't think that was a knock on him...I seem to remember something about him being the only QB to beat Texas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State in the same year or something like that. That was back when Texas was good of course.

Remember the old days,when we owned Monday Night?

Yes and I remember the old days when Monday was a prestigious game. Now with the Thursday and Sunday night games, the Monday nighters don't have the same meaning anymore, just another game.

I get that our team has been bad in general, but we usually get mega blown out on nationally televised games. It's been embarrassing...even more than the usual "everything this team does is a joke" level of embarrassing.

My theory? Other teams get amped up for nationally televised games. In a sport where a uniform and helmet work against furthering your name and brand, there are only a few moments of undeniable national coverage. Players recognize this, and their coaches get it even further ingrained in their head that the game they are about to play is special.

The Dolphins on the other hand not only have had an obvious lack of star power, lack of talent, and (during some seasons) lack of fans in the stands, but also have had coaches over the past decade that are some of the worst at pregame speeches, strategies and gameplans. The thought of Joe Philbin talking to his team before they are about to play the Patriots on a Monday night game sends a shiver down my spine. Even Dan Campbell, with his fire and brimstone speeches, couldn't convince his own players that he knew how to outsmart the master strategist coaches on other teams.

Adam Gase is working hard to change this, amongst the zillion other things he has to turn around for this franchise. That Ravens game was the closest thing we've had recently to a "primetime game performance" out of this team. I'm hoping the culture change continues and we as fans can stop wincing when we see a primetime game on our team's schedule.

I watched that game in the hospital. My daughter was born the previous day :)
