Rising
1. Jakeem Grant, wide receiver: Although it's just one game, I was thoroughly impressed with what I saw from Miami's sixth-round pick in last week's preseason opener against the New York Giants. Grant struggled in training camp with catching the football consistently and field punts. However, he had no issues in the game. Grant led the Dolphins with four receptions for 68 yards and also notched 113 total return yards. Perhaps Grant is better when the lights come on in games, which is a good thing. But the Dolphins still want to see consistency in practice.

Falling
1. Dallas Thomas, guard: The three-plus year experiment with Thomas continues. Despite plenty of past struggles, Thomas remained the first-team left guard throughout the spring and the start of training camp. But Thomas struggled mightily in the preseason opener, which quickly brought flashbacks. The time may be now to end this experiment before the start of the regular season. In the past, the Dolphins didn't necessarily have a better option in waiting. This year the Dolphins have several players, led by first-round pick Laremy Tunsil. Jermon Bushrod and Kraig Urbik also are veteran options.

What I am curious about is how people compare Jakeem Grant with Tavon Austin. Why was one a 1st rounder and the other was a 6th. They are very similar players

I personally think Austin was over drafted. Howerver, most people will say Austin was the better player entering the league. Grant is viewed as a player that can spice up an offense while Austin was viewed as the main course.

Dallas Thomas's stock make Bear Sterns look like a bull.

Little financial humor for ya

If Thomas a stock they would have to pay people to take it. He csnt exactly fall lower

I think Austin was in an offense that translates better to the NFL and was more of an offensive weapon. He ran the ball A LOT. Grant had 8 attempts last year(and a 78 yard touchdown pass so expect us to use grant on a reverse and have Tannehill slip out the backside because all eyes will be on the gadget man) Austin ran routes. Austin probably had better hands too. He also had a QB attached to him, and I think a BCS game. Plus Texas Tech is notorious for their air raid overinflated stats. Basically exposure, publicity and offenses.
Physically there's not much difference between the two. I think Grant is faster and his vert is 4 inches higher, but not by much.

I actually think Grant is a better WR.

But Austin is slightly bigger, and more physically gifted. I liked them both out of college a lot, wanted to draft both.

Austin has a gear though that I don't think anyone else in the NFL has. Not taking anything away from Grant, but that gear Austin has, he can hit in a split second, i think that put him in the 1st rnd.

Fair enough. But perhaps people were wrong about Austin? He isn't really doing well in the NFL. Of course you can make the case that his team is not the best and is not able to best utilize him

Not doing well all depends on the perspective and expectations. As a high first round pick you could say Austin has not lived up to expectations. However, if Grant gives Miami the exact same impact as Austin has I would take it and be very pleased.

I think Austin has done pretty well. He hasn't developed much as a WR, I don't know if thats due to coaching or himself.

But as a runner and package player the way the rams worked him off Gurley was pretty effective IMO.

I like how Dallas Thomas says he's thinks he's been doing well and should be a starter. Don't know what fantasy world he lives in but he needs to be slapped back to reality.

I just noticed he had 900 combined yards last year. Not terrible. I was expecting better numbers receiving but like you said he is more of a weapon and carries the ball and isn't a true WR

If Grant can polish a few things up, he reminds me of Tyler Lockett. They are both undersized, very fast, and dangerous in the return game. Lockett simply works harder than everyone else which is why he is 5'9" but plays like 6'3".

The sooner Tunsil is getting all of the starter reps the better. I mean honestly... What's the point, Dallas has been straight trash and hasn't changed. End the experiment. Save someone an injury
