Saban leaving could be the "straw that breaks the camel's back" and causes JT to decide to retire. IF JT retires, I could not be surprised if Zach retires as well. Vonnie Holliday is already expressing reluctance to return with a new coach. A new coach may very well not welcome Ricky Williams back.

Saban leaving may well turn into an utter debacle that leaves us totally f%@#d next season. We may find ourselves in rebuilding mode whether we want to or not.

And yes, I did say in another thread that we could easily be a playoff team next season with a few breaks, and I do believe that. This thread is just to discuss the worst case scenario relative to possible fallout from the Saban thing.

These factors are a big part of why I want to see Dom Capers promoted to HC. He's a good coach, and if he takes over the players may buy into the continuity thing and stick around, especially the defensive guys like JT, Zach and Vonnie.

Thoughts?

All of those things are certainly a possibility, which makes the selection of the next coach so critical for any hope at short term success with the playmakers we already have.

The scary thing is that Wayne H. seems totally clueless.

I understand what u are saying, and I too feel like the rebuilding mode may be upon us. Our future is more uncertain now than it ever has been. BUT at the same time this could all change with the flick of a switch and our franchise could take off. IT ALL DEPENDS UPON THE NEW HEAD COACH. If its an experiment then the players are gone. If its someone that is proven then I believe we have the pieces to be a contender.

I doubt JT was all that attached to Saban. I'd be surprised if any player was really attached to Saban. You think if we bring in Jim Bates that JT wont stick around? Depending on how the coach hunt progresses, losing Saban could be a boon towards keeping JT here.

This move today has reset the Fish three years backwards on being any kind of playoff team. Like it or not, we're screwed for the next couple of years.

why is everyone worried about jt? hes the best but..do we need to making long term decisions just to make jt happy for 1 maybe 2 years? jt cant take us to the superbowl on his back thats already been proven. if jt wants to go let him. lets worry about the future.

We need to start over from scratch, anyway.

Like it or not, this is just your opinion. No facts here at all

I'm happy now. We'll finally get to rebuild this franchise from scratch. No more dinosaurs, no more overhyped off-seasons, just building a new foundation and a future contender. The sooner the rebuild begins, the better if you ask me....

Saban wasn't dedicated to rebuilding, he took the easy way out by adding old veterans instead. Time for that approach to change, time to start over....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

Start over is right, but keep some of the accessories we already have in place. The new coach has to go young nuff said, bye to all of our old free agents and let the young players play and stop going after other teams players that are best average. It all started in 95 and we haven't been the same since, JJ gave us the defense but no one worried about the offense. All the best players in the league on the offensive side where drafted by their own teams, that does make sense. So we need to go all out on the offensive end in the draft with picking up a LB, CB along the way. We have DL to play Saban just didnt let them play. Rebuilding...I dont like the word...I prefer reloading...but we have been loading blanks (free agency). So we need a new game plan.

One player we might not look at but I think is a great RB/FB/SP will be Najeh Davenport (former GB/Pitt). He has speed, can block, and would be an improvement over Minor. Both him and Ronnie in the I formation would work wonders.

I'm with you. I'm glad it's over. Start all over again. Even if the vets decide to become FA's and leave or retire. Time for The New Beginning!

I guess I lean towards the philosophy that it's possible to improve incrementally and win with a combination of older and younger players; which is why I wasn't too shocked at Saban signing guys like Carter and Holliday and Truck.

<sigh>if we have to go into a total rebuilding mode though, then "so be it" I guess. After all, as we all know, "it is what it is."</sigh>
