as well he should, he was the winningest not best. Hell, he had DANNY and couldn't get us to the big dance but once. Truth, if it wasn't for Dan, Don would not be winningest. IMO

Because of the influx of younger fans ,the latest stars and coaches always have an advantage over the old timers in these polls as many cant relate to them.

Shula was the right coach at the right time for the Dolphins in the 70s but the game sort of passed him by in the later years.

He is still the greatest coach in Dolphin history.

BB has 3 in four years in an era with spoiled players and a salary cap. Although I LOVE Shula, you have to admit he really couldn't get it done after 1973.....

Oh yea?! That's funny cause I thought we went to the Big Dance FIVE (5) Times with Shula and 4 of those times were WITHOUT DAN! You need to learn your history and take the poo-poo out your mouth. :shakeno:

Shula was the best...end of story.

ok, that brings you to 1973, then what?
then he squandered the talent of one of the most talented quarterbacks in NFL history. What would've Bill Walsh accomplished with Danny? or Landry or Noll ? or ........? to his credit he was salary handicapped by cheap ol' Joe and he did go to the Superbowl 5 times(AND he put Joe Namath in the Hall of Fame)
and don't think I am a Don hater...I am not. I greatly respect him and consider him one of my favorite football people. Winningest not Greatest.. IMO

Great point!!

2 losing seasons in 33 years as a coach. Please name one coach in the history of the NFL who can match this. Parcells? NO. Walsh? NO Bellicheck? NO. Gibbs? NO.

What coach has been in the most Superbowls? Shula, 6. 1st Coach to take 2 different franchises to the big dance. Parcells being the second and only other.

The only Coach to lead his team through a season undefeated, perhaps the greatest coaching achievement in the history of the NFL, with 2 different quarterbacks.

Won in the 70's with one of the greatest ball control rushing attacks ever and won in the 80's with one of the greatest passing attacks in Nfl history.

I could go on and on. Bye the way, ask Bill Bellicheck what coach he most admired growing up. Answer: The DON.

To say he did squat because he didn't win another Championship after 73-74 is absurd and a reflection of a zero-sum all or nothing mentality of todays press and fans. Its just plain ignorant. :yell:

Shula lost key players after winning the 2nd superbowl, including Czonka and Armsberger (thanks Giants). Miami in 74 was not the same team, If Miami had kept at least Zonk and Armsberger, they might have gone for their 4th straight time to the big game like the Bills, and winning at least 2 of them unlike the Bills.:D

Great point. Add Kiick and Warfield to that equation. If that team wasn't broken up by the WFL and The Giants, there may have never been a Steeler dynasty and we probably would be referring to the 70's Dolphins as the greatest dynasty of all time.
