Years from now.......when the "freshness" (modern day bias) of BB's accomplishments wear off, and his resume is compared with Shula's resume, let's see who is considered best coach of all-time:

2 wins-----------------------3 wins
328 wins---------------------Is he at 100 yet???
33 years---------------------10 years
31 winning seasons :eek: ----5 winning seasons

Also, Shula proved he could coach different eras/styles, and still could win.

Granted, if BB continues at this pace, then we could debate. But as of now, Shula is the best in HISTORY.

Nice job! great post and I think you are exactly right I think we should wait at least another 20 seasons to compare the 2 and I don't believe BB can keep up the way hes going right now just because the NFL is getting harder to stay on top now.

as well he should, he was the winningest not best. Hell, he had DANNY and couldn't get us to the big dance but once. Truth, if it wasn't for Dan, Don would not be winningest. IMO

sorry, that is not clear. I am trying to complain that he had Danny all that time and only got to the Superbowl with him but once. I also only gave him credit for 5 SB appearences, it should have been 6. I forgot about Woodstrock

BB has 3 in four years in an era with spoiled players and a salary cap. Although I LOVE Shula, you have to admit he really couldn't get it done after 1973.....

No, you need to learn your history. He took an average talent team QB'd by Woodley to the SB. That is the greatest coaching job in the history of the NFL. He also coached a team into the SB in 1984 (Marino's team). I beleive he also took his team to several AFC championship games.
Talk to me about BB in 20 years. Let's see how the rest of his career pans out. What if he has a losing record the next 10 yrs (like he did in Cleveland) and he decides to retire from all the pressure. Will you see him in the same light? Don't think so.
When Shula was BB's age he had already been in 4 SB's (1st with the Colts) and he was 2-2. Shula only had 2-3 losing seasons in his years with the Dolphins. I don't think you fully appreciate what an accomplishment that was.

You could say that BB is in the right spot and at the right time, if you consider that the man was a failure in Cleveland. Shula did well both in the colts and in the dolphins.

Notice how Lombardi dominates in Wisconsin and Noll is leading in Pennslyvania and Walsh wins out in California, and yet Shula cannot even win his own state? Shows how many fin fans compared to other fans there are in Miami.
