Check out this article. I hate to bring up old wounds but this guy really hit the nail on the statistical head.

So very sad and infuriating at the same time. I've always felt our defensivetalent was good enough in the early 90's, but we had the wanny of D-coordinators (No adjustments)

Thanks for reminding me. Excuse me while I go find the nearest bridge.:shakeno:

What pissed me off the most about Oliva-NO-D's defenses is that one week we would look like world beaters and the next week like a H.S. team...

I was too young to figure it out. So depressing. That 91 AFC Championship Game will live in my mind for eternity.

Oh wait..I think Thurman Thomas just scored again on another screen pass.:shakeno:

But did you guys get the ending where he did his research on last year and the 2 worst decision makers were Vick and Roethlisberger, yet both teams went to the conf. finals..hey our QB's looked bad, but weren't the worst. Interesting.

Coaching?

Mora JR. & Cowher vs. Gibbs & Gruden

Things that make you say hmmmmm

Wait for me!

Some things just should'nt be revisited.... too painful!
Chuck Studley anyone?

Olividatti (sp) sucked again and again and again. Marino should have thrown a football at the guys head and knocked him out for the season.

Man, you had to get me fired up about this again. I remember yelling at the TV how stupid his defense was. The DL doesn't attack, instead they make contact with the O-lineman, stand up basicly and are supposed to read the play. That is the most stupid thing I have ever heard of. The d-lineman not attacking and losing leverage trying to read a play. STUPID STUPID STUPID.:fire:

:fire: :fire: :fire: :fire:

All those screen plays keep being replayed over and over again inside my head.....

For his defense to work, all 11 players would have to be all pro (or near that level) and very very intelligent. That just is not gonna happen. Anytime a defense is taught to not attack, it is not going to be a very good defense.

The defensive talent wasn't good enough to match up with Buffalo back then.
Other than Offerdahl (who was frequently injured) our LB's weren't athletic enough to slow down Thurman Thomas.
Out D-line was average. Jeff Cross was a good pass rusher but was nothing special against the run. Klingbeil played with heart, but had limited ability. Louis Oliver and Jarvis Williams were overrated and neither one could cover.

The defenses of the Giants and Cowboys was on a different level than ours at the time.

I was throwing Bryan Cox, Troy Vincent and Marco Coleman in the mix. I really think it was the scheme and lack of variation moreso than a complete dearth of talent. This article seems to support that notion.
