I was just watching highlights of the game on nfl.com and i paid close attention to our oline... Jake was perfect on the last drive and donald thomas also

thomas handled gholston twice and read a DE-DT twist (for those who don't know, the two cross and exchange responsibilities, often confusing linemen in pass protection)
Donald read it good and washed the D-end to pennington's left taking him out COMPLETELY

I haven't seen in detail the whole game through replay, obivously there must've been problems with the run blocking (80 or so rushing yards)

and even though we allowed 4 sacks, the ability to pass protect was highlighted in the last drive the dolphins orchestrated. they only have to communicate more and be on the same page when blitzes are coming, jsut look at the david martin TD:

the nickel is coming off the edge and vernon carey reaches for him instead of the D-end, Thomas plays the DT but he's confused because he sees two man to block and doesn't know which one the RB will block (he shouldn't be wondering about this usually, because the nickel blitz shoudve been picked up by the RB, the DEND by carey and the DT by thomas )
the play could've been ugly if cobbs went for the nickel...anyways, little mistakes are easily corrected and our pass-pro might be a lot better than we think right now
those little mistakes aren't long to fix usually, let's hope for the best

check out the highlights after reading this, it's worth it

lol sorry about that... :rolleyes2: :beer1:

lol i figred something was up. its all good. I agree with you Donald Thomas looked pretty good out there.

Side note: It's funny how our fans are ready to throw guys like Ginn away already, yet when you take a look at the Jets two draft picks this year, they both look like chumps.

Something is up alright because I thought Thomas was manhandled most of the day causing our run game to stall and pressure on Pennington when we passed. Not saying he blows or that he was the only problem on the OL, but I focused on the LOS most of the game, as I always do when watching the game for the first time, and I just didnt see him playing well at all.

yeah, run blocking was pretty ugly, i'll give you that, but hey it was his first game, Jake long had some problems also... i'm anxious to see this front against the pats' we'll see what they're really made of

I thought both guards were terrible in pass protection. There was always someone coming up the gut. The stunts and overloaded sides were killing our OL. I'm going to watch the DVR later this week, but that was my impression in real time.

I didn't pay much attention particularly to Thomas (or most of the Oline for that matter) but did notice they didn't seem to play cohesively until the mid-to-end of the 4th quarter. I know they have a lot of potential, and I think it hinges on their ability to gel as a unit, as well as personal growth of Thomas and ESPECIALLY Jake Long. I was reading something from the Sun Sentinel, and two Jets players had good praise for our two youngest linemen. I think Pace said Long is gonna be really good, and Sean Ellis gave credit to Donald Thomas. I hate the Jets, and am pissed they won, but I thought it was pretty classy for those two guys to voice their praise for our rookie big guys. Either way, while they definitely need to improve, I think our line has the potential to become dominant once everyone works together and the rookies become more seasoned in experience and technique.
