Don't Assume Matt Flynn

I just saw Matt Flynn's stats. Yes he has 9 touchdown passes, but he also has 5 interceptions in those two games. That is 2.5 interceptions per game for the math challenged. That sounds like Chad Henne to the average Dolphins fan. No Thank you!!

I like Flynn. He has room to grow esp. in a system that he is used to working in...

Have you ever watched Chad Henne play?

There is WAY too much in the way of people assuming that Matt Flynn is coming to Miami. It is way too simplistic to state that because of his ties with Philbin that he will automatically come to South Florida.

Seattle, Washington and Cleveland are all fits as well. They have as much, if not more, of a need as Miami. Flynn fits well in all of their systems. In Seattle, John Schneinder is the man who drafted Flynn in Green Bay is now a major part of the Seattle FO in their new direction. Washington is desperate to win NOW and RGIII is not a great fit for what they do. Cleveland is in the need for playmakers and using their recently earned ammo to move 2 spots for RGIII could be counterproductive and signing a Matt Flynn might make more sense.

Also, while i have been on record as saying I DO NOT think the Packers will tag Flynn. If they can sign Finley before the tag deadline, we need to know that a market has been created for Flynn. At point do the Packers reverse field and tag Flynn and get an additional draft choice?

I like Matt Flynn. Take a look at some of the threads I started at the end of the season. However, the competition for him will be fierce and I do not like the idea if it involves giving up compensation for him.

There is a lot of work to be done in signing Flynn, which I think they should do. However, do not start threads about how it is a slam-dunk that Flynn is coming here.

My sources say flynn will be franchised and then traded. see Matt castle. If you think they will just let him walk and get nothing your living a pipe dream. We will probably end up drafting a qb and start off with moore.

"Your sources" are saying everything different from the national and local media of Green Bay. However, it is a possible move for them to make as the hiring of Philbin has created even more of market for Flynn. Do you really tag Flynn and have him making more money than Aaron Rogers...lol.

From what I understand the new CBA prevents a franchise and trade like Cassel.

Ross' primary decision has been to keep Ireland, so for the most part he does.

Ummm, Jim Harbaugh. Jeff Fisher. Bill Cowher. Jon Gruden....yep, he closes as well as our defense.

Enduro...Graham Harrell disagrees with your sources...look at his logic. I bet he is not tagged, but true enough, we better have a contingency plan.

Even if the CBA still allows it they would take a huge risk in tagging him unless they have a trade worked out prior which again is very risky.

Yes this is going to be tricky

Packers “unlikely” to use franchise tag on Flynn

Two weeks ago, a stellar, record-setting performance from Packers
backup quarterback Matt Flynn sparked speculation that the Packers could use the
franchise tag on the free-agent-to-be, in order to prevent him from hitting the
open market in March.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Packers are
“unlikely” to do so.

Though they have several more weeks to make a final
decision, use of the tag would entail significant risk. The Packers would have
to offer Flynn a one-year salary that is expected to be in the range of $14.5
million.

That’s $6.5 million more than Aaron Rodgers‘ base salary for
2012.

Also, once the contract is offered to Flynn, he’d surely sign it —
making the money fully guaranteed.

Then there’s the fact that any team
trading for Flynn would have to sign him to long-term deal, with $14.5 million
in 2012 serving as the starting point.

In the end, the maneuver probably
entails far more risk than G.M. Ted Thompson will be willing to assume.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>(read closely) Unless,
of course, a team desperate to secure “dibs” on Flynn works discreetly with the
Packers to set up a sign-and-trade scenario that allows Flynn to receive a fair
contract, to go to his desired destination, and to allow the Packers to get some
compensation for developing the seventh-rounder into one of the hottest names on
the free-agent market. Even if the Packers only get a mid-round pick, the
ability to ensure that he goes to an AFC team could make the Packers more
inclined to try to work something out — especially if the Raiders and new G.M.
Reggie McKenzie, a long-time Packers employee, decide to make a play for Flynn<<<<<<<<<<<.

Other teams that could be interested in Flynn include the Browns,
Redskins, Dolphins, and Seahawks.

I personally believe that Harbaugh or Fisher would've chosen the Dolphins had Ross not insisted to stick with Ireland. I have my doubts if Cowher ever coaches again and I have no clue what's going on with Gruden, so I never considered them real candidates.

no ones assuming he's coming here but i would think that if philbin endorses him and wants him here provided we're in the money ball park he could get elsewhere and we don't throw out any stupid lines like you will compete for the job if you come here when he has other teams tellin him he's their guy as the starter i'd have to think that we would have a leg up on everyone else with philbin here already...

as for the tag could happen but i'm doubting it...green bay is gonna have to pay finley likely top paid te in football money this offseason...imo he's the #1 priority for them...and i don't even know what else they have coming up this offseason from their core group they must keep

Nobody goes to a team because of the GM that drafted them, the GM has nothing to do with playing time or style of offense. Why would a player not want to go to a team that has the coaches that know you best and that your comfortable with. If Flynn doesn't want to come here then obviously he didn't like the coaches in the first place and more then likely they wouldn't pursue him.

There's no doubt it's no slam dunk but we would have a huge advantage over any other team.

The Dolphins are in a very nice position with Flynn and have to be considered the front runner. Don't think that Ross won't pay Flynn an excellent salary to be the starter in 2012 coupled with Flynn's familiarity with Philbin and the system wont be strong attractors for Flynn. I think it will come down to Miami, Seattle and Cleveland and of the three, Miami has the most to offer.
