Don't Assume Matt Flynn

The Dolphins are in a very nice position with Flynn and have to be considered the front runner. Don't think that Ross won't pay Flynn an excellent salary to be the starter in 2012 coupled with Flynn's familiarity with Philbin and the systeconsent be strong attractors for Flynn. consider I think it will come down to Miami, Seattle and Cleveland and of the three, Miami has the most to offer.

my moneys on those 3 also...and provided we don't go belly up on the contract i think we have the best shot...

Nobody goes to a team because of the GM that drafted them, the GM has nothing to do with playing time or style of offense. Why would a player not want to go to a team that has the coaches that know you best and that your comfortable with. If Flynn doesn't want to come here then obviously he didn't like the coaches in the first place and more then likely they wouldn't pursue him.

There's no doubt it's no slam dunk but we would have a huge advantage over any other team.

No ****. However, the GM of that team might really believe in him and make a hard run at him financially.

Yes this is going to be tricky

Packers “unlikely” to use franchise tag on Flynn

Two weeks ago, a stellar, record-setting performance from Packers
backup quarterback Matt Flynn sparked speculation that the Packers could use the
franchise tag on the free-agent-to-be, in order to prevent him from hitting the
open market in March.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Packers are
“unlikely” to do so.

Though they have several more weeks to make a final
decision, use of the tag would entail significant risk. The Packers would have
to offer Flynn a one-year salary that is expected to be in the range of $14.5
million.

That’s $6.5 million more than Aaron Rodgers‘ base salary for
2012.

Also, once the contract is offered to Flynn, he’d surely sign it —
making the money fully guaranteed.

Then there’s the fact that any team
trading for Flynn would have to sign him to long-term deal, with $14.5 million
in 2012 serving as the starting point.

In the end, the maneuver probably
entails far more risk than G.M. Ted Thompson will be willing to assume.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>(read closely) Unless,
of course, a team desperate to secure “dibs” on Flynn works discreetly with the
Packers to set up a sign-and-trade scenario that allows Flynn to receive a fair
contract, to go to his desired destination, and to allow the Packers to get some
compensation for developing the seventh-rounder into one of the hottest names on
the free-agent market. Even if the Packers only get a mid-round pick, the
ability to ensure that he goes to an AFC team could make the Packers more
inclined to try to work something out — especially if the Raiders and new G.M.
Reggie McKenzie, a long-time Packers employee, decide to make a play for Flynn<<<<<<<<<<<.

Other teams that could be interested in Flynn include the Browns,
Redskins, Dolphins, and Seahawks.

Why would any team want to pay him the franchise tag amount and draft picks? If Flynn played the entire season like Cassell did then there's less risk and more film to study. It seems stupid to assume it's the same situation, Flynn is a much bigger risk with the amount of film on him.

So what does GB do when no one offers them anything?

For those of us who don't care for RG3, the scary part of someone else picking up Flynn is he may fall to us in the draft. Flynn may turn out to be a great Pro, but I just can't IMO justify giving up a draft pick(s), and a huge contract based on 2 games. I just can't. I personally would offer to trade back in rounds 1 and 2 with the Cardinals for John Skelton, I'd also look into trading back in rounds 2 and 3 with the Patriots for Mallet.
John Skelton? Matt Moore is 100 times better than him. Ryan Mallet won't get it done either. Im more comfortable with Matt Flynn.

This makes no sense at all.

We can't justify a big contract for Flynn based on two games, but we can justify a big rookie contract based on no games......

Yeah....
. Rookies no longer get huge contracts. Chances are Flynn will make twice as much as a rookie, especially one taken 8/9th overall. If we can get Flynn for a reasonable amount, 7-8 mill a year with incentives then sure, but if he gets offered franchise caliber money I think we re better off going another direction.

Everybody has their preferances, I like Skelton, and Mallet. If you like Moore and Flynn thats fine. Time will tell.

If my response validates a "no ****" response then I doesn't that make your OP irrelevant! If Philbin said in his interview that his plan was to sign M.Flynn because he believes he can be great and then the GM and Owner hire him you would think they will go harder after Flynn then anyone else, after all they have the inside information from his coach, the guy that has helped trained him for his entire career.

If he said otherwise then I doubt were in the chase for Flynn. That gives us the upper hand period, no matter what any other team will always have a little more doubt because they have so little film to go off of. Clevelands GM may believe in him but he drafted him in the 6th/7th round so it can't be that great of a belief, and he may also have had zero input in that choice as he was not the GM of the Packers.

I realize this is another "no ****" post for you, so why not try and post something that doesn't warrent a "no ****" response to any rebuttals.

Okay...let's see if we get Flynn. I hope we do get him, but you are totally underestimating other teams in their ability to get him and overrating the idea of just because Philbin is the HC in Miami Flynn is coming. Lots of fits for Flynn out there.

I think it is a pretty good post btw...lots of good discussion.
