Dont be suprised if...

Because not all players make good coaches.

Exactly......for Marino, football and especially QB play came easy. He didn't have to work that hard to achieve even minimal success. It sometimes is extremely difficult for those kind of people to teach and especially have patience with others to whom the game is much more of a challenge. I believe this is why Marino has never coached except on the little league level.

Yet that was discussed and going to be the plan with Pennington before he said he wanted to take a leave and go to the booth's. I'd take Marino in that capacity way before even thinking Pennington would be a good fit for that job. I had said this about Marino years ago but it just wasn't the right scenerio for him but if ever the stars were aligned and all the Ducks lined up for this to happen, it's definitely now. Everything about it is perfect, including the Pairing of Marino with Cowher as HC, it's a move that would not surprise me in the least and would instantly bring a massive amount of hope and attention to this team....imagine Marino working with Luck on his Mechanics, Release and Reads, it's the stuff dreams are made of and one I'd wish for becomming a reality.

Exactly, there have been numerous players that have been very good as players but when it came to coaching they had no clue..

I feel like some of the worst players usually get elevated to head coaches.

Another example of those who cant do teach.

Bart Starr comes to mind. Great QB and maybe one of the worst coaches ever in the NFL, and got extra years to prove himself because he was Bart Starr.

Nah, it's because the great players make a ****load of money, become celebrities, and then get to retire in comfort with cushy media gigs. The bad players have to keep working for a living.

As Steelers coaches go, I am going to go out on a limb and say that Tomlin is a better coach than Cowher. My sense (and it is just that) is that Tomlin can relate to today's players better than Cowher. I'm not sure why a lot of folks are clamoring for Cowher to coach this team. I really don't think I do.

I disagree. I think Pennington would be a way better coach than Marino. Marino just went out and played and relied a lot on his natural talent whereas Pennington had to learn the ways to get around his natural limitations and still be effective. I also think that Pennington would be a pretty good OC eventually. He was very good at using what he had to attack defenses effectively and I think his offense would be much different than the way he played as a result.

penny would be the perfect candidate for QB coach. not many people smarter than him.

Oh, goody! Another pro-Cowher thread. Haven't some you learned that big name and/or retreads don't work in Miami?

I'll agree Dan & Don need to come back if only for PR.

Dan Coach? I recall he himself said that he doesn't have the temperment do so.

The powers that be could have brought Dan in tutor Henne? At the very least IMO, #13 & #54 should have come in to go over game film with Chad H.

i can see that it makes sense cowher as coach marino as qb coach for luck!

You see Cowher at head coach, and Marino back in some capacity. I'm not going to be another one of those guys with an "inside" source, but I know a former player who still talks with people from the team. Marino is furious about the state of this team. Cowher and Marino work together on CBS and there is at least some mutual interest in trying to bring Miami back. Don't outright discount me. I am telling you what a former player said, I am not making it up. That said, who knows what will happen.

what the hell are you talking about then?

Marino was natural and instinctive.... you cant teach that!

I never understood why no one wanted Shula around in some capacity. You don't have to guess whether he knows how to run a franchise

Marino has already demonstrated that his heart may be with the Fins, but that doesn't include a commitment entailing full time work. I'd actually prefer Ross making him one of our BS ceremonial owners more so than the Williams sisters, Mark Anthony, Fergie or any of the celebratards with little connection to the franchise. He's exactly where he should be. However, IMO Darius Rucker (Hootie) is another lifelong fan who more appropriately should be made another ceremonial owner than any of our current ones.

Now as far as legendary players willing to, and capable of assuming an active role in the franchise, to me it's a no-brainer. Get ZT 54 involved NOW!

Exactly. There are some things you can't teach...Like how to fit a ball into small spaces on
a line. I imagine Marino's coaching to involve "You just DO it. Drop back, BANG! Stick it in there."

Thanks coach.

It's not to say bad things about Marino. It's just that you rarely see the great ones coaching.
Singletary was an exception, as we see how he worked out at the top.

Bottom line is that I dont' think Marino has any desire to be involved with team
management, nor is there any garuntee he'd have an aptitude for it.

Oh, and I dearly hope we don't hire Cowher. We're in for more obsolete
football if we do.

I believe those celeb owner's you mentioned actually bought that title with a couple million cash investment. I don't might the big names in the sky box and If we were winning it would just bring more attention to our team. The way we are playing now attention is the last thing we need.
As far as being involved they should do it like the Canes do and have guys like ZT , Marino and even Shula around practice and giving locker room speaches to get us fired up.
Zach did say he'd like to coach but probably at the high school level.
Danny Boy has it too good now to even consider coaching.
Hootie should have been the one they approached to write new fight song not Buffet.
