I know alot of people on here want us to go out and sign big name free agents like Bouldin, Houz, Suggs, and that guy from Oakland. I've even heard a few people asking for lewis if he slips through the cracks in Baltimore. But lets not get greedy here and forget how we turned it around so quickly... being smart. Picking up reasonably priced free agents and building through the draft. In my opinion a realistic and productive free agency would include Otagwe, and Brown, or even the corner from Houston. While these guys might not fall through the cracks and into free agency if they do I think they would be great pickups who we wouldn't necessarily have to break the bank for. But lets not get ahead of ourselves first we have to keep some of our guys off the market. I feel Bell needs to be re-signed, the man is a play maker and way underrated. Next sign Carey, and Crowder, unless of course they want top money. Crowder in my opinion must be re-signed. I know he isn't great but compared to what we will get on the market and what we will have to pay for it I feel he must stay. If Carey is not an option i think we have to go after Gross. I know this kinda goes against what I originally said in not breaking the bank for anyone but if Carey is gone he is an exception. Not to mention he would shore up our tackles for years. We should also re-sign Goodman he was our best corner this year in my opinion. Now to the draft I say with our first three picks we go defense, defense, and defense. We need a NT, OLB, and a ILB.

1st
Maybin OLB
A Sophomore who is eligible for the draft, Maybin gives is the pass rusher opposite of Porter we so desperately need. Everyone talks about Porter disappearing in the last few games of the years. Give him some help and watch him reappear. Maybin is quick and is a sack specialist. He is also big standing at 6'4 240 lbs.

2nd (a)
Brace DT
Coming out of Boston he was kind of over shadowed by Raji, but trust me he is no slouch. While he doesn't tally up the sacks he consistently collapses the pocket and is great against the run.

2nd (b)
Beckwith MLB
In Beckwith we get a hard working, tough, team leader to come in at MLB. While he isn't the biggest hitter or best blitzer, he is a mobile guy who plays sideline to sideline, and has great football IQ. Which is a plus being matched up with Crowder.

I would also like to see us add a guard, and maybe a guy like Patrick Turner at wideout.

This is obviously very rough and it is still early but i think that with an off season like this we will be contending again in 2009 despite our tough schedule.

i think you got it wrong.
i think offensive line is priority number 1.

look at how well our defense did this year. im all for making the D stronger. but i feel that our O-line needs undoubtedly outweigh any defensive needs. im definately not saying forget about upgrading defense. im just saying we definately need a better O-line first.

we need to put more points on the board in future games. a stronger offensive line makes our recievers and pennington more effective AND actually gives us a running game. with the talent in our backfield, its pathetic how weak our running game was this year.

Offensive line we do need to fix that middle up a bit... remember we lsot Smiley and Thomas though early, so hopefully those guys can come back and dominate for us. i think we need to find a C... Satele frusturates me with his play. unaggressive quite often, and seems to be lsot out there at times. he's on the smaller size taboot.

i would love to get Suggs though, he would help so much on the other side of Porter, which we were missing all season. Roth did a decent job over there for his first time, but he's not a speed rusher to put pressure on. We basically put no pressure on any quarterback through the second half of the season. i shocked we won so much withough much pressure honestly.

I agree. Our OL will be fine with Thomas and Smiley back in the lineup. We just need to get some quality depth. Maybe Alleman and Ndukwe will improve over the next year or maybe we can bring in a guy or draft one. Satele JUST turned 24 like last month. So, he is still young enough to bulk up some. He is already 300 pounds and really quick. So, if he can keep his quickness and add 10 or 15 pounds of muscle in the offseason, we might have something there. And having two years of starting experience at center and being a smart guy, he is becoming a strength on the OL.

We need a young DT and two ILBs, a CB, a FS, a WR, a TE and probably someone to compete with Roth at OLB more than a center. I'd say we even need to add depth at OG before we need a center.

I do love this board, but let me ask you this should we go for D first or O.:dolphins:

in my mind we need to pressure the QB.... quite absent this year throughout the season. OLB opposite of Porter is needed in my mind. Suggs or a Brian Cushing i wouldnt mind (but i just starting to check out collegiate film, so i not totally sure yet)

our defense was FAR more dependable then our offensive line, look at the 2nd half of the season. where did our running game go?

if we can run the ball and control the clock, we can keep our defense on the field for much less time. then we dont have to rely so heavily on passing. and it would improve our passing as well. chad would have more time to throw and our recievers would get less attention.

i think improving the o-line has the biggest impact on the team as a whole.

I think it depends on who we resign first. If we can keep Carey, Bell, Goodman and Crowder, it reduces our needs. But, if we don't resign one of those guys, we need to replace them either high in the draft or FA. Crowder I think would be the easiest to replace. But, it will all be a money game most likely.

I see several quality players that we could get with that 25th pick in the first round. So, that is promising. There will be quality WRs, CBs, LBs and OL at that pick. There might even be a really good NG if we get lucky. So, we will be in great position to simply take the best player available and he will make an impact on the team.

I think he's got it right. Defense wins championships. We need to grab a nice crop of LBs to come in here and groom(we run the 3-4 obv. we can't afford to be mediocre at the postion) -- we need a pass rusher, and another run stopper. Big athletic LBs is my #1 most want this April.

Do whatever it is we wanna do on offense from FA. Do what we need to do on defense through the draft.

I agree. When you run the 3-4, you def NEED big time LBs. I think Porter is there now with his ability to get to the QB. Roth has potential if he can get that groin injury taken care of and develop more. He just might surprise and become a big time guy. Gotta love his motor. I think we need TWO new guys on the inside long term. Crowder MIGHT turn into one of those guys. But, I'm not counting on it. Ayodele, I see as a guy we MUST replace this year. So, if we could pickup a guy like Dansby in FA and then draft Sintim, we should be pretty well set on LBs. Then we will just need a shut down CB, a FS, a NG, a WR and depth at the OG position, and we are ready to roll. Well, once we start Henne we will be any way.

We have been rebuilding and tooling for over 5 years. It's not like we were winning and then had a 1-15 season...then Tuna came in a cut everyone. We have a few players left from the old front office.

This team is being built for a run for the championship. I do not think we are a couple of players away this coming season from making it happen. But if a big time free agent can secure a position for the next 3-4+ years...then damn straight the front office will grab him. You build a team from Free Agents and Draft...THEN add them to what you have.

This team has a few very weak spots...
* RG - Thomas may be the answer but OL do not last long and we have NO DEPTH.
* C - Based on this past season. But he could still turn things around.
* WR - We do not have a WR that is talented enough to get open even when doubled.
* DT - If the big man goes down...we have seen what happens. No NT depth...
* CB - We do not have a lockdown corner. We have solid corners...
* FS - While Hill is good at calling the plays...he is not a threat to an offense.
* DE/OLB - We have no pass rush other than Porter. That will not get pressure late in the year.

If a free agent can fill the role with a contract that is market worthy today...better think they will sign him. Todays contracts are bad...after 2010 they might be the worse ever for a big free agent. Yeah every year just about there is a new highest contract...blah...blah...but we have a cap system...that might just go away for a season or two...

There is a couple free agents that the front office will look at long and hard...

Gross, Dansby, Suggs, Brown, Asomugha & Peppers...once the tags hit and the inital contract offers to any of the above that hit the market.

...they will be reviewed again.

Can the player make an impact?
Is there a first day pick at their position that should be on the board?
Does the player have injury issues?
Does the player have off the field issues?
Does the player blend in with the leaders of the team?

You get the point...there is a million options to every free agent. But if one of them is on the market and ready to sign, get the pen ready. I have no issues with trading away picks as long as the player could play 5 or more seasons at a high level...that is IF he has a PROVEN TRACK RECORD of being great.

This team compares to other teams that have holes to fill, but might be able to use the next 2 drafts & free agents to make a run at it in the 2010 season.

It's not like Bill will just start giving out huge contracts to all free agents. He will be very select with his contracts. But if the above talent is on the board...he could pull the trigger and then give out the role play contracts like most of the time...without killing the cap.

Keep the mantra up my friend

Wrong D does not win championships without a balance on O if your D is on the field 2/3 of the time and given the opposing team good field position.. Game over...

We are swiss cheese on the Oline that's why they instituted the Wildcat...
